How did you get started?
I really got started when I was young and found that I loved to bake. I moved through my cake baking phase and I had a bread baking phase for a number of years but I always seemed to return to my appreciation for the humble cookie. The idea for the "cookie shop" began as a small thought many years ago. I always felt that my love of baking needed to meet my love of packaging and retailing and if I could combine them together I would have the shop/bakery of my dreams. Although I worked on the ideas and recipes for years, it all came together in December of 2010 when Elm Hill Cookies opened.
Where are you located?
We are located in Kerr Village in the lovely town of Oakville Ontario.
What are your specialities?
As our name suggests our speciality is cookies. I wanted to make only one product and focus on all of the possibilities that we could make. Our point of difference is that our cookies are square in shape(or squarish) and they are baked fresh every day. From house made caramel to our very popular Pie Cookies we try to cover as many of the textures & flavours as we can. We are always coming up with new ideas as well.
What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?
Well it would depend what time of the day it is. I usually like a lemon sandwich cookie with wild blueberry jam in the afternoon with my tea. If we are working on any new recipes, I usually like to sample one of those. At the end of the day a good old Chocolate Chunk Cookie sometimes can hit the spot. I do struggle with my love of cookies. Some days when I don't have a lunch packed I have to remind myself that they are meant to be a treat not my lunch.

Where else should we visit in your area?
I recommend taking a walk up Kerr Street on a nice warm day (perhaps with a cookie in hand) and discovering all the interesting, unique and individual shops and restaurants that are in the area. There is nowhere else in Oakville that has the cultural diversity that abounds in Kerr Village.
Do you host any special events?
We take part in special events outside the shop on many occasions during the year. We also offer giveaways and special treats to our Facebook followers on many occasions.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
We serve a great cup of illy coffee or loose leaf tea for an accompaniment to your cookie purchase. We also have tables where you can sit and watch Kerr Street go by while you eat your cookies.
