Tent Cake

a cake for a soldier that deserved it
My aunt, my cousin, and I made this cake for my uncle's "homecoming." My uncle had just gotten back from a nine month trip to Afghanistan (he's in the army) and when he came back, he had to be back at where he was stationed, which is somewhere in Virginia...I don't even know lol
Anyway, him and his girlfriend drove down to visit us, and my mother decided to go out with a bang. He's not retiring from the military anytime soon, so that's not the reason for the "bang"- it's because one time when he came back from Irag, his now ex-wife told him face to face that she didn't think he would make it back. Thank God he did, but still....what she said wasn't exactly the kindest. So I think my Mom wanted her brother (my uncle) to know that he's still appreciated for what he does, and that he's not just a piece of crap to us, his family. And what I mean this "bang" is that when him and his girlfriend were driving here, as they got closer to where we live, they were escorted home. We had the State Police, a couple different fire trucks from different departments, more police, and the Patriot Guard. Also, at our house we had tons of people- family, friends, there was soooo many people there. Everyone was thanking him for what he does, and all this other stuff, it was pretty cool to see. So we made this cake for that event.
