Black and white...makeup?
So my friend wants me to do a Halloween look for her that involves her looking like she's in black and white.
...Like, does that make ANY SENSE?
Like, she wants to look like shes stepped out of a black and white film or picture, colour and all!
I told her I don't think I could do that, but she insists there MUST be a way.
Any ideas for me? O_o
I still don't think it's possible...lol
You'd need grey tinted make up. Not white or black, because black and white isn't truly black and white as much as its just monotone.
Yea.
I was looking at black and white pictures, but like...I think on a person, it'd just look like what: Grey makeup :o
I've always wanted to try that.
Ill have a play around with it, and tell you if I get any ideas
Okay, So, I tried it out, and I think the best way to do it, would to be paint her face grey, with face paint. It you make a photo of her black and white, you'll be able to tell the colours you need.
But like...I mean, how would you go about shading? :o
I mean, in different lights, would it look awkard at all?
You could make her cheeks darker, just look at what parts are naturally darker/ lighter
Youtube has many many great videos on "makeup Contouring". It's mostly used by drag queens but can be used subtly in omens makeup to accentuate facial features.
I'd do this on a mid-tone Grey base, and do dark contouring, then add highlights last.. always remember to blend a lot though. You really really must post the results as a project if you can, I'd love to see how this turns out!
Yes, use contouring practices. In any case, this should be an interesting exercise for you.
Last Purim (Jewish Halloween, of sorts) I got a job to do kind of the same thing, but like pop art instead of black and white. Be careful that once you've started the contouring and it's looking good, you DON'T do what the person will request, which is to "blend it a little bit." It makes it look like crap.
I still got paid for that job, but it didn't do me any other favors, let me tell you that. o.o
Good luck! You already have remarkable makeup artistry; hopefully you will be able to pull it off better than I did! :-D
actually try deep brown too, because red looks almost brown in black/white

Ah, I get what ya mean.
Hmmmm...Now I just wanna try it out lol
I'm probably gonna try it out on myself first (to sorta get a feel for it), then on her.
I feel like the face paints that I have now are waaaay too shiny (it's the cheap sort of halloween kind, though I never applied it so it'd be opaque).
Should I use shadows over a gray base (like Autonomous suggested)?
Or do they make powders?
And, Autonomous, if I do get to do this, I will mos def share the results here

Thank you so, so much for your kind and encouraging words
And for all of the help that you've been giving to me. It really does mean a lot to me!
lol I'll remember that (I'm always "blendy blendy blendy").

She had some pinkness in her cheeks and under her eyes, so I'll make sure to keep that in mind
