New Boots Problem - Sorry <3
I found a LOVELY pair of knitted boots in Primarks (£8!!!) the size 7's were too small and the 8's are a tad too big, I don't mean on the leg - heaven forbid!! I mean the actual shoe size bit. I don't really want to take them back because my nearest Primark's is difficult to get to. Plus I <3 my new boots and want to WEAR them. Before anyone says anything - yes i tried them on before I bought them, so I don't get the problem.
Does anyone know how to solve the problem of boots being a tad too big for you?
I weren't wearing socks when I tried them on - like proper ones - so I'm going to try some normal or thicker socks.
I might try stuffing them at the toe or the heel.
Does anyone have any other tips?
Mucho gracias!!
Much obliged CO+K peoples xxxxx
Hi Becky
If they are the slip on kind its best to build up the toe area. You can buy toe pads from most shoe shops.
The other way I've made shoes fit is to use an insole that lifts your foot up to fit closer. I used a trainer one because it's wider and usually thicker.
If you really need to make them much smaller put the toe pad under the insole so it doesn't roll up under your foot.
Hope this helps x
Hey Sheila, thanks for your advice.
It is the slip on kind. I tried normal and thick socks and they make them easier to wear, I just don't want to get too warm with boots & thick socks on.
I might try the insoles, they are a good idea or build up by the toes
Thank you very much for your help xxx
You're welcome x
Ooh, toe pads sound like a great idea! I bought some shoes from ebay which turned out a bit too big - I've been stuffing them with tissue paper but it doesn't work particularly well. Thanks for posting about this!
P.S. And ideas how to make a slip on sandal fit better? I have quite narrow feet so it's really difficult to find a pair that fits.
Hi TrixieRocket
Depends on which kind of sandal you have.
Strap type that goes through your toes = try adding a small strip of the toe pad to either side where it meets with the sole. You can always shape the toe pad so that it can't be seen when your foot is in the sandle. Just slit the pad to fit around the toe piece of your sandle. Best to use a hole punch for the middle bit so it fits snug. Smooth out the edges of the pad by shaving it slightly so there isn't a big ridge under your foot.
You can lift the lining of the sandal and add padding under it to lift your foot to fit the shoe. Use a flat headed screwdriver to gently lift the inner sole. Cut the padding to size (shave the edges as above) leaving a gap around the edge of the shoe so that you can glue the inner back into place.
The other thing I have done is to take the inner sole off lift the straps off and move them inwards to shorten them. Then glue the inner back on. This is also the way I repair strappy sandals. I use the fabric part of zippers to fix the strap back into the sole.
I use super glue for the bits that can't be seen. Any bits where the glue may be seen I use leather glue as it's more pliable and doesn't go white.
Hope this helps x
Hey Trixie that's alright. What do your sandles look like?
Thanks for the help! I have a few different pairs of sandals, none of which fit me properly. I have a pair of flip flops which I wore once then have never worn again because they keep falling off and some birckenstock sandals, the type that have a single strap that goes over your foot. If I can lift the lining and shorten the strap that would be great for those ones. I also have a pair of beautiful high heeled sandals from irregular choice (present from my boyfriend) but I look like a little girl dressing up in her mother's shoes because there's a huge gap between my foot and the ankle strap! I was thinking of maybe cutting a bit out of the strap then sewing it back together a bit shorter, but I'm scared to ruin my beautiful shoes!
(If anyone's interested, these are the shoes

Hi Trixie Rocket
Just had a look at the photo of the high heels. See what you mean. I had a thought...ummmm, what do you think to lifting the inner sole to lift your foot?
You could shape a full shoe liner to fit. At the heel end you could lift the purple non- slip piece and slip it under to make it more comfortable. You could do the same at the front if it's got a pad there. That way you dont have to take the shoe totally apart.
