Possible to make boots at home?

I'd love a pair of boots, however I have larger than normal calves.
I know this probabl sounds a bit too much, but is it possible to make my own boots?

I love the knitted style boots like this:

Also Rocket Dog style boots like this:

Just thought I would ask if they are possible to make at home...?

I looove Rocket dog and I have a pair of boots similar to those you're showing, but I can't see how you could make them...
while the first ones, well you could knitt a sort of sleeve and slide it on a pair of boots that fits you.
I also had to renounce to a pair of beautiful boots because I could not zip them up :'(

Would you be able to adapt boots you already have? If you have durable enough scissors you could always cut a slit down the side of a pair of boots and fill it with a nice fabric or some knitting or something. It could work in a sort of shabby-chic way.

The Rocket dog ones are really nice. I have the same problem as you.

In the past I have either added a heavy duty (elastic cuffing) stretch 'V' shaped piece into the back seam and top stitching the seam so it flatterns it or I've unpicked zips to ankle level and added long tappered panels either side of the zip.

The zip method is a bit tricky. I used a 'V' shape that I cut in half lengthways. The cut line becomes wear the zip goes.

I've also added strong matching elastic to straps that were too tight. I did this by carefully opening seams, slipping the elastic inside and re-sewing. It's best to sew them on facing the wrong way, flap them the right way and top stitch to give a stronger seam.

Try to match up colour & texture of fabrics where possible or just go for funky contrast and really personalise.

I've just repaired a pair of snow boots with fabric from an old umbrella Lol

Hope this helps x

If you go here http://www.urbanthreads.com/pages?id=508 there's a great tutorial on how to make sweater boots similar to the first picture.

I guess I'm the only person who thinks that the Rocket Dog boots look like wellingtons (soz but I do)=/

How about making spats? They go over your shoes and look like boots. You can make them out of leather (real or imitation) although I prefer velvet and brocade Happy
