How to Alter an XL tee shirt to a smaller size?

Recently, a friend gave me a Twilight T-shirt as a graduation present. That was really sweet of her, considering the fact that I am a huge fan of the series. The problem is, the shirt she got me is an extra large and I am a small.
Anyone have any idea to alter the shirt to fit my small frame?
I can't find a picture of a similar looking shirt on the Internet, but it's a black, short sleeved tee that has a picture of Belle and the Cullens on it.

The DIY freak in me wants to alter it into something more fashionable, but I am stumped on what to do. Does anyone care to offer some ideas to this Twitard in a twist?

Depending on where the graphics are you could cut off the sleeves to cap sleeves or no sleeves and taper the sides to fit by pinning them with the shirt inside out then stitching them up. Leave a little room for comfort and shrinkage though. Trim the seams and do both sides same. Put on the shirt after you alter the sleeves and perhaps the neckline inside out. Have someone pin the sides for you if you want the tapered effect. The bottom could be fringed, the fringe could be braided or beaded, but cut off the bottom hem to the length you want before doing this. If the shirt is nice and long, taper the side seams as mentioned above and wear as a mini dress

Something that I would like to try with a shirt that is too big is corsetting the back.

If the back of the shirt is plain black, maybe you could cut a slit (from top to bottom) and maybe cut a few inches more off, put some holes down the side and loop some black or other coloured ribbon through it and tie it up at the bottom?

You know, excatly like the back of a corset...

This is just an idea, but its something I've always wanted to try!!!

Thanks Michelle

Erica: It may be easier to try to make your own body form before trying alter the t-shirt sizve or to corset the back. This way it will be easier for you to alter the t-shirt without having to take a hit and miss guess, or to have to get someone else to help you.
