Help with Fairy wings!
Hello Friends, I need to make some fairy wings for my Halloween costume and I am having trouble getting started. I bought some 16 gauge galvanized wire for the frame (I would like BIG wings) and the wire will not stay upright. I have since purchased a heavier gage wire and will try again.
Can you experienced wing makers tell me what type and gage of wire you use? I saw a u-tube video from a lady in Chicago who made wings but she did not mention what type of wire she was using.
Your help would be appreciated. Halloween is getting close and I need my wings!!!!
Please email me your advice @ lehead0802@msn.com
I'd use Coat Hanger wire... Not sure if you get wire coathangers in the US though? They seem a bit of a safety hazzard and I know that some countries are definitely more safety concious than the UK!
Is it that the structure of the wings are flopping or the entire wing won't stay up? If it's the entire wing, it's more likely to do with the way you're holding the wings to the arm bands...
A photo would help!
This project uses hangars like Roma suggests

There are a few other projects here and they use hangars too.
Good luck
24 gauge wire is the best. Its is easily bent but will stay upright just as easily. The best wing creator I've heard of is Emilie Autumn, an amazing crafster and very talented musician, thats what she uses.
You can watch her amazing tutorial on youtube if you look up Emilie Autumn and Crafster coast to coast.
Its awesome.
They do have wire hangers in the US. and they work great for wings!!!
go to threadbanger.com! they have a good wings tutorial. just search fairy wings
