First Ever Renaissance Faire!
I want to do something very.... fairy-ish, but I have no idea where to start... other than digging around in some bits of costumes that I already have... hmmm. HELP!
TUTU! Miquette's magical fairy wand and glitter, i always associate sparkly things with fairies and also nature, leaves and flowers, mushrooms you know
Renaisance..mmm..I love that word...that throws images of ladies in big dresses that make their bums look huge...ooh a mask like in a masquerade ball.
what is a renaissance faire?
Renaissance fair or festival (known as Ren-fest) is outdoors. Most people go in costumes in the renaissance style or fantasy style such as wizards, fairies, pirates and so on. they are all different, but mine has events to watch such as jousting, archery, comedians, musicians, acrobats, but all in renaissance style. Vendors are set up all over selling swords, renaissance clothing, chain mail, jewelry...

Yep, i'm heading to the carolina renaissance faire - i'm so excited! I was born in the wrong time period, and i can't wait to see all the costumes. i'm doing a fairy thing myself, and i think i've come up with something.... YaY! As i put it together, i'll post pics, and let everyone see what they think!
So i've been playing in my costume box, and here are 2 possibilities so far.... hmmmm

idgi... what's with fairies and things? the renaissance was all about the temporal world and about humanism, so surely you should go as something real? sorry, i'm just super passionate about the renaissance and think everyone else should be too! (art history geek alert)
Historically, that's how the renaissance was, and plenty of people dress the part. But that was a time when many people believed in magic and otherworldy influences that affected their lives, so you'll se plenty of faeries too! A lot of Ren-fests actually have faeries as members of their cast!! And who says faeries aren't real? The Irish, for one, certainly seem to think otherwise. ^.^
What are you on about! Faeries are real!!!! One has just died now :'(
I like the first one more that seems more 'mother earth' to me too.
Whaaaaat? People in the Renaissance believed in fairies? Not how I was taught it! I know they all believed in superstitition but definitely not fairies!
And I say fairies aren't real- and if Richard Dawkins is allowed to say god isn't real then I'm certainly allowed to say fairies aren't! :-p
also- my vote is for the first.
I love the second one, you can get some pretty blue eyeshadow and glitter yourself up all oooh i want to go to the one over here ren fair! I had so much fun, I went when it was fairy week! I made my own wings and found a prom like dress from good will for 7 bucks and dolled it up. The followin week I went again as a gypsy. I love taking pictures of ppl when they dress up. Some go ass kick ass warriors, fairies with those HUGE feather wings, dragons and I even got to see one sexy hunk go as Conan major drew fest there!! I just love how ppl get into it with their imaginations and creativity!!! woo have fun and take pics for us~
