Project posting limit

I think there ought to be a project posting limit... Say for example, you're allowed to post two or three projects a day- but maybe an unlimited amount of How-Tos? Or, perhaps a suggestion that similar projects be put in the same project. For example, today the projects page has an awful lot of (fabby) plushie projects by sophia y., but I feel those could be entirely condensed into one project called 'Plushies' with just lots of photographs, since it takes up so much of the homepage.

It happens a lot and although I hate to be a grouch, I hate even more to see the front page lacking in the variety that makes me love co+k.

Just a thought!

i agree and maybe get people to search the projects before posting their own so they can put it in as a version unless they have their own how to...but I don't want this place going all rules this and that!

i posted my baby tutu under a version from someones tutorial on her it came out cute
but i think even if you do a version of someone elses project it should show up in the all projects section other wise cut out and keep is not posting all its
projects on the main page and even though it wasnt your original idea you still want credit for the originality of the way youve done it right

but i do agree their should be a limit on posting the same kinda project maybe one of each for example

1 sewing project a day this includes plushies clothes etc

1 bead project a day this can include fimo resin glass beads etc

1 paint project a day

or i just had a better idea you know how myspace has that whole buy your friends thing well you could start out with like 50 pts for making a profile
then so many points can be awarded for each blog you write etc
you can get points everytime you add a friend or everytime someone adds you
or if you post a msg on the board which would really get ppl chating away anyways

then when you click the projects button a list will pop up different catogories

sewing
version
bead
paint
yarn
other
etc

each catogrie will be worth so many points maybe 10 pts to post bead projects
25 to post sewing projects
15 to post paint projects so on and so fourth
that way its not all rules this rules that ppl feel good because they earn the right to put projeccts on the site you can even have
free pass contests where you could when one free pass to post any project under any catogorie

i think it will be good because it gets ppl active in the site blog etc
you could even earn pts if one of your friends signs up for the site Happy double bonous right

well thats my idea i have tons of great ideas i wish someone would email me hint hint cat ;)

Cool idea. I just don't like it when I post a how to then the next day there is three of what I did, and no kind of credit. )= I don't know if that seems conceited. But, it still kinda peeves me. I always post it under versions. That's what they are there for. I don't know. (=

Points system sounds good - although, it gets tricky when you encourage people to do stuff. The site'd be worse if it was full of points-grabbers. People should post stuff because they made something awesome, or blog when they've got an experience to share. Counters'd be good though, I'll get onto that. Next to your board posts, have a project count? Or more charts (most fav'd user, all time greatest projects, most commented etcetc.)?

tara: on the versions thing - If someone follows your tutorial on this site, and makes what you made, it should *definatley* be a version! But, what if they adapt (or improve?!) on your technique? Or, if they've been taught a technique or invented it up and ended up with a similar type of thing? I reckon they should still post a how-to, but, some system of 'inspired by' or something might help give you some credit?

The other priority is to keep it simple for new members posting projects - I don't want a million things to fill in just to put up a quick project, but more experienced people on the site need some extra stuff.

Thanks for all the comments though!

which is why ppl would be grabbing for pts because theyve made something awesome they want to post Happy
but i know what your saying about blogging i could see ppl just doing it because of pts and really not putting anything good in them

but yeah i think it would be cool to do a hall of fame thing etc

the reason why ppl dont do versions of other ppls projects and post it as a version is because when you do it doesnt show up on the main page i almost didnt post mine under versions but i said fuck it you gotta give credit when credits do but some ppl arent like that
maybe you guys should take away versions altogether and just have how tos and projects seems simple to me

Isn't that what we all do with the how to's adapat and improve? But yeah, I like the idea of posting it as your own, and just saying inspiried by. Didn't mean to sound so b%@chy. (=

I don't know if it's been mentioned in this section (can't be bothered reading it all! Happy) but I think if some-one does a repeat how-to that isn't substantially diferent from the original one then the creator of the duplicate should be told to turn it into a creation before it's posted.

I think we should keep versions, they're posted on the main page now so that's good. You should only post your project as a version if you used the person's how-to. If you already knew of the project before then it is a creation.

Sometimes people make how-to's that aren't needed(as in they're a little obvious),they could just have used a creation. I think before it's officially posted they should be told to turn their how-to's into creations

Ack, I don't really want to go enforcing rules like that - people have different skill levels and if they want to share how-to's that they think will be helpful, then I don't think we should stop them. What does everyone else think?

I find a lot of how to's on similar projects helpful but i find it annoying when it's the exact same as someone elses thing. Right now I'm making that teapot plushie but I'm embroidering stuff onto it and I want to make a how to for it so i don't know if I should put it under the version or what! Maybe have a version thing but you can add your own what you will need bit and a how to if that's the way you did it.

I get what you mean tara, putting a project on here is part of the fun of it all and it's nice to get nice comments, I always put 'Thanks to *crafter* for the inspiration' when I've done a version or been inspired Happy

I agree with Cat though, no ikky rule enforcement!

and p.s. people can see all your projects if they have a nosy on your profile sooo

Queeny, post it as a how-to and then use the link back box to link back to it, we're going to add a new type called Variations which are how-to's that are versions of other people's projects.
