I’m moving house in a couple weeks and we have this gigantic oak wardrobe- I want to keep it as it’s a family heirloom- but it wont fit up our new and very narrow/steep stairs.

So the only option is to keep it in the living or dining room- I think I will try to upcycle or paint it, but I need some ideas on what else it could be used for- any ideas on how I can:

1- Make it look pretty- Nuetral colors, browns and greens.
2- Repurpose it for extra storage ?
3- Do something unusual/different with it?

    Thanks!

You could make a mini floating book shelf for them? If it was me i'd make something like this from wood:

    http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=cassette+bookshelf&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1024&bih=623&tbm=isch&tbnid=5xx3k6cdVcZjVM:&imgrefurl=http://www.bouf.com/buy/product/50994-junior-living-cassette-bookcase&docid=tERPcAflhcN4EM&imgurl=http://www.bouf.com/assets/Product-50994-1.full.jpg&w=422&h=317&ei=Y9EST5ubCtPT4QS1hPnaAw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=724&vpy=298&dur=595&hovh=195&hovw=259&tx=143&ty=98&sig=107742812787329116163&page=2&tbnh=127&tbnw=154&start=15&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:15

And then customise it by painting the titles of the casettes all over it, depends on the decor of your house though I guess

Or you could have a giant frame around them like a collage picture?
