one of those books you just can't put down
The book that I couldn't put down was:
Philippa Gregory - The Queen's Fool
I'm a bit of a sci-fi / fantasy nerd. I would recommend:
Kylie Chan - The Dark Heavens/Journey to Wudang series
Marianne De Pierres - The Parrish Plessis series
Terry Brooks - the Shannara saga (its split into about 4-5 different series but they are all related and flow on from each other)
Nick Hornby - Anthing of his though I particularlly loved "A Long Way Down"
Thanks probably enough to be sharing (I read way too much and get hooked on series which have an interesting premise or twist).
This one is for vampire fans (read it right: VAMPIRES, not love stories=D): Darren Shan's Chronicles. It's a 12 books saga, but each of them is really short, and that's actually the real problem, you never have enough until the very end =D.
Harry Potter series(started them when I was 16 and my brother was 12, we used to fight over the book we were reading at the same time!), Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series(seems to go on forever, but they are so wonderful), Brian Jacques' Redwall series!!!! My brother got me in to those, as well! I still have yet to read his Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series....lazy me. Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series, which are better than Twilight, Anita Blake, and Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Mysteries put together, but hardly anybody's heard of them!!! I literally do not stop reading until I pass out on top of the book! Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries, as well, but again, not quite as good as Mercy. Anything Frank Perretti writes, ESPECIALLY This Present Darkness&Piercing the Darkness, and Monster. So good. I couldn't read anything scary or too freaky when I was pregnant, for some reason, it made my stomach hurt, so I read all Christian Fiction the whole time, and Frank Perretti is my favorite. The Egypt Game, by Zylpha Keatley-Snyder.
I miss my books, now! They are mostly far away in a storage unit right now T-T
The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder (I hope I spelt that right) - that was brilliant and I read it in 4 days.
Now reading the Minotaur takes a cigarette break and that's beautifully written - I don't want to finish it :/
Just spend a great long Easter weekend re-reading the Kylie Chan series and reading the fourth one for the first time (had to read them all together so I had the back story fresh in my mind).
Four books - four days. Would recommend it to anyone wanting an entertaining read. I can't wait for book five (of six) to come out around June.
Not going yo read for the rest of the week though or my family will be complaining!
omg, i am such a hp whore. :-P
Pretty much anything by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I don't think it's ever taken me long to finish any of her books. Also, most of the HP books~ Still got to fully read the last two.. I keep putting it off. (Mostly because I read the first few chapters of book 6 and got bored.)
I can never put down any book by Sarah Dessen . I don't know why, because they're so cliched, but something about the way she writes them makes me read them straight through every time.
The Stieg Larsson Millenium series (desperately waiting for my dad to read the last one and pass it over), LOTR, Wild Swans, The Time Travellers Wife... so many books, so little time!
*Yes Harry Potter is totally AWESOME
I recently read The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey. It's a horror fiction book that I found absolutely enticing.
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini was a book that I read almost in one sitting; it was so engaging.
The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray was a series that I LOVED.
I know I have more favorites, but I can't remember them right now...
hmmm, you should read 'Wake' by Lisa Mcmann, it caused me a sleepless day, it also is a finished trilogy. Also try 'Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins, if you do pick this one up the last book in the trilogy comes out this August. Those are some good reads, and you won't sleep till you reach the end, I know form personal experience.
Anything by Christopher Moore or Christopher Buckley... maybe it's that name Christopher.
I read all of The Hunger Games really quickly, literally pored over the last one within less than 10 hours.
It's been so long since I picked up a book I couldn't put down. Until I discovered The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. OMG. I had a hard time really appreciating Harry Potter - THIS book is like a more grown up/believable version and it is soooooooo good! Now while I'm anxiously waiting the release of the sequel next year, I keep re-reading the darn thing.
Other than that I'm a memoir junkie and one of my all-time favorites is A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. It's about a guy whose parents die so as a 20 something he has to take care of his little brother. It's heart-wrenching, hilarious, and once in awhile very thought provoking. His writing style alone is worth checking out.
