@LindseyN: Ugh! Kite Runner is, to date, the most depressing, disturbing book I ever read; compelling, yes, but I had nightmares about it for a very long time.
Also, the entire time I was reading it, I was thinking that I wasn't sure whether it would be better if it was based on a true story or if the author was simply that disturbed.
