Can you believe they would charge 20$ for this?!?

This consumerism problem runs deeper than crafting. It's also a problem with food. More people are turning to fast food more often because they can't be bothered to make it themselves. Also does anyone else notice that the quality of fresh foods in supermarkets are going down and there are more and more premade things now? It's all about time now. No one has the time (or maybe the ambition) to make their own meal or dunk their hands in red paint and stick them on a shower curtain. I got carried away here... At least this thread is on the Issues and Rants board.

Okay. Rant ended. Happy

I agree, Lo!! I was so shocked when I moved to the Middle East--I was brought up to bake cakes and pies from scratch and to make dinner every night... I asked Shlomi's mom if a cake she served was bought at the store or if she made it, and she had no idea what on Earth I meant by "store-bought." :-P I mean, you CAN buy cakes at the store here, but they aren't very good or pretty. :-P

I was taught how to bake and cook too! From a young age I baked cakes and pies with my mom. In recent years tho we do buy our birthday cakes because our super market sells really pretty and "healthier" 5$ cakes in a ton of different flavours. Buying a 5$ cake that feeds 8 is way cheeper than buying all the things to make a cake. Plus we suck at decorating.

Oh no. I'm part of the problem... This is a vicious cycle.

YES I totally thought I was going crazy, but for the past year or 2 fresh produce has not been so fresh, I have become used to seeing rotting food for sale.
Not only that, but do you notice how fresh food is SO EXPENCIVE! it's like $1 (or more) per orange/apple..etc and it's not even that good.. oranges are sour and apples are bruised and chalky tasting.
I have been waiting all year for fall so I could get cheap apples to bake with.. but the prices are still insane and the quality is still low. So no wonder north america is full of over weight people..it's just cheaper and easier to grab a bag of potato chips or drive into mcdonalds. I miss how things used to be when I was younger.

Exactly! Its sad when a super market has cheap, pretty, and fresh cakes and gross old rotten produce.

I thought I'd take a photo of the bath mat I have its by a company called Spinning Hat! (I think its the exact same as the link Lo provided but they don't say the brand name!)
I brought it from this website....http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/
I was so disappointed when it arrived!
It said it was white but is more a dirty cream colour and the red blood is very dull almost pink in colour.
I never bothered putting it in my bathroom I had big plans to have a "Dexter" style bathroom, but the mat wouldn't do it justice!

Zina - Thanks for posting the pic! That definatly is the same mat. It doesn't look as "real" as I would have liked either...

Kitty - What?!?! What are the odds? hahaha

I've decided that I am going to get the plain shower curtain and red paint tomorrow (friday) and DIY it! My friend has said that she asked her mom for it for christmas but I'm making the curtain for her birthday (november) so I have to try to make it ASAP and if it works out I have to tell her mom not to buy it!

Haha, I wonder what guests at your house, especially those that have the same gorey taste that you have, would think about using your bathroom!!

In any case, it doesn't seem like it's worth the price they're asking if you can DIY it yourself. That is wicked cool, makes me wanna make one too with the mat!!

I have found that Michaels here where I live has lower prices than Hobby Lobby on certain things and vice versa, plus you get 40 to 50% off coupons when you buy at Michaels. I like them both, depends on what I'm looking for. Right now I'm having a serious fetish for buying clear stamps!! Michaels has some in the dollar bin along with the clear block to use them on, plus 25% off sale on all other clear stamps so I got 3 new sets yesterday!! WOOHOO!!

Shower curtains normally are on the pricey side even when they aren't home made. I need a new one terribly but other things have taken precedence!

In my house we have always used the cheap plastic type curtains and never used the nice decorative material ones that need a liner but I've been able to convice my minimalist mom to get a pretty curtain and I found a nice blue/brown/white curtain that matches our paint/floor.

Next step: Getting my family to agree to a "bloody" curtain. This mission may be harder to complete.
