What do you do when you're depressed?
i try to stay constructive and clean my room or do crafts or decorate my walls. i also like to read zombie books or watch zombie movies.
i also snuggle my cats.
Sometimes when I'm sad I just want to cuddle with someone/something. Unfortunately, my go to snuggle bug (my 17 year old doggie) passed away 3 months ago. Other times I'll just pop one of my fav movies and curl up on the couch or go shopping or exercise. I'm trying real hard not to head to the kitchen!!!
I so comfort eat
Hm... I recently went off some medication that happened to help boost my mood (I have depression and an anxiety disorder), and I've read that foods high in certain vitamins (e and the b's, I think) help curb those feelings. For example, I now take fish oil and B supplements and eat a lot of sunflower seeds (lmao--has anyone seen Taking Woodstock?? You'd see why I laugh every time I eat the seeds). I just recently started to eat more DARK chocolate (at least 70%), and that really helps too, to be honest.
Other than chocolate (lol!), I like to curl up with tea, norah jones, the cat, and knitting or some other craft, all in a cozy sweater or blanket on the couch.
I comfort eat too, which isn't good because I'm overweight... buuuut I do like to watch a good movie and talk to my friends about something else completly random to take my mind off things
I know when I'm nervous or upset I either pick at my skin or comfort eat like someone said above. But I know that both of these behaviors are destructive. So I read, listen to music, workout, or make jewelry or something. Some of my best work was inspired by a mean person or depressing event. One time when I was completely screwed over by a friend I made a ring. It was stunning. Then we made up and she complimented me on my ring. I almost started laughing.
The biggest thing for me is going out to spend time with my horse Maverick. It's no lie when I say he is my sanity, everything gets shoved into perspective and peace when I am anywhere near him.
otherwise I craft or draw,or go to the gym and run. That is a more recent one but I've been depending on it a lot lately.
but yeah... def mavs before anything else.
This is what I do when a person makes me depress at work. I switch my cd drive to the portable one I keep in my purse and turn the sims2 on. I then create a double of the person who trick me off and well I give them what's coming to him/her. A slap, a drink in the face, a good butt kicking, or a slow death in the game. Afterward I feel pretty good.
But doing crafts at home usually lifts my mood when I'm home and listening to music work. Especially when I'm listening to Dancing By Myself by Billy Idol, I'm usually super happy by the end of the song.
depression just plain sucks. My meds are $30 a month, a dollar a pill. But they help. Dark chocolate and Perrier water, or icecream. Sometimes Coke. Thats my comfort food.
I think getting a job will get me out of my funk.
The last time I was very depressed was when I was in a relationship with my ex. I don't think he was helping me with the deprrssion.
Listening to Rammstein or Slipknot usually helps quite a lot. I do have a weird liking for watching software training videos!!!! Those techie guys are always so upbeat and enthusiastic about using their computers and it's quite contagious. Other than that walking blows away the cobwebs but I have to be careful if I'm a bit down and my walk takes me past shops as I am liable to spend to cheer myself up - bad move!
