what to do(employment related woes)
I have actually taken Marketing courses, being a graphic designer, we are about making products and adverts
Ah-ha hopefully that was useful to you?
I don't know but you definatly can't judge how well your business will do based in the time frame of a month or so... unexpected things could happen. And like myself and others have said it is typical to make losses within the first year or two, if you find coping strategies to manage those losses then you should be fine
I understand it, but I am thinking more of the population here. I am having issues with people paying, no one wants to pay for the service! Grrrr. They want me to produce large orders and only pay $20 for it. Its like I work my ass off to produce those shirts, mugs, prints. So I tell them, you no pay, you no get.
you don't walk into a grocery store and say I am going to take this chicken and come back to pay for it later, like in a week, when I have ate it. *face palm*
I had one woman get upset because I refused her the copyright. You have to pay for the copyright, just because you paied $20 for the session doesn't mean you have the rights. I own the image, you want copies, you pay for them. She didn't want to pay for it, so she doesn't get the images. Then she asks me to make her something but doesn't want to pay right away. I am like I am surrounded by idiots
but online sales are going great

I am considering online adverts at etsy stalker
OMG it sounds like you're surrounded by morons - no offence or anything - but that's the ways of business, unless you set up some credit system however thats just a pain in the arse and is not done with photography... ARGH you must be sooooo frustrated. I keep my fingers and everything crossed for you that all gets better. I'm glad that your online sales are going well though so it's not entirely bad news =D
yeah thats why I was ranting. I really wish now that I went with fine arts instead of History. Everyone was telling me that I wouldn't get anything with fine arts, and look at me now. I am making a career in the arts. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh.
well thats what happens when everyone tells you its better to do an ademic subject. I failed, worked my butt off too, but still failed. only got two years left to the degree
I feel the same sometimes... although I'm not failing but I feel like I'm definatly struggling...
If anything there would be more career opportunities in Fine Arts then History really. Well you don't have to go back to History, you could transfer you subject maybe? My ex-friend was doing Business & Psychology Joint Honours with us in our first year, then she failed Psychology so she did Business Single Honours but had to start back at Year 1. Well there's no rush, you don't have to go back at all - academia is not for everyone, me included, I wish I could have done something more hands-on!!
well I am thinking of taking a college marketing course, it would go vey well with the design
