lions are pack animals (which is unusual for cats), as are dogs and wolves and if you live with a dog or wolf they learn who is in charge and will love unconditionally and loyally (and if you don't set that heirachy early they will walk all over you!) so if it is real then it doesn't surprise me. Also that was in like the 70s? In the 60s and 70s we'd just got safari parks and zoos and people really didn't know the dangers of it all, hence harrods selling cubs, so that's why they were allowed to go up to a completely wild animal so I think it probably was real.
