Concept help for my book
I am writing a story about a girl named Margo who is like this really cool smart punk rock girl, anyway. Margo is really into the idea that you are put on the earth to contribute one thing, be that curing cancer, or getting in the olympics, or even killing someone. Once you have completed your "One thing" you are able to die peacefully. Does anyone know if there is a name for this theory, and if it belongs to any religion? Any help is appreciated thank you
Well, the Bible states that our purpose is to try to bring others to Christ so that there will be fewer people ending up in Hell and so that God will be able to be with his children he loves. That's all I can think of. I'll see if I can find anything about a name for your theory for Margo.
The word, Dharma, means "purpose in life". It's an ancient sanskrit word that seems to be more closely linked to Buddhism. I found this at: www.netplaces.com/self-esteem/developing-a-philosophy-of-life/why-are-you-here.htm, but it didn't say what that purpose was. Nihilism is the belief that life is without meaning and existentialism means that each person creates teir own meaning of their life. But I didn't find any theory like you are talking about, except Christianity's. That's the only one I could see that has a deliberate, preset purpose for people.
Kismet: The belief that your life is to serve but one purpose (like fate or destiny). Kismet is referenced in many Hindi and middle eastern cultures but is strongest in the Muslim beliefs, as a spiritual reference that is a sign of humbleness. "It is my Kismet" can be said for anything from a humble death to a great deed. It is all Kismet.
Thank you both so much!!! I'm just glad it's an actual thing! Thank you thank you. I'm going to go write some more now.. For a very long time
Would either of you be willing to read the beginning of the story through for me? I just need some direction to see where I need improvement
