Can adding elbow patches add length?

I have a thrifted jacket and the sleeves are just a dash shorter than I'd like them. The seams have no extra fabric to lengthen them with. If I cut holes at the elbows and added patches would it add a little length? Or would that be pointless other than decoration?

If you want to add length then you would have to go around the whole sleeve... so you could add something more like a horizontal stripe in the middle of each arm... maybe with a contrasting fabric? The other thing you could do is let out the hem of the sleeves and press. Then if you don't like the unfinished edge you can line it with bias tape or build a facing... hope this helps, pm me if you need help!
