Crafty shabby-chic bedroom ideas?

I'm seventeen and I've recently started to feel like a want to make something cosy out of my bedroom. It's pretty small, and I have that smooth, wood ikea furniture that seems to dislike my shabby chic style so very much.
Does anyone have any crafty ideas I could use to save myself some money on redecoration? I also have huge issues with storage of my ever-growing wardrobe.
Here's a tumblr where I've been pulling together styles I love.

Thank you!

You could always make or buy cheap foam stamps to use to decorate the walls with a little motif... or just get different sections of wallpaper and make like a wallpaper "quilt" on your walls. Jewelry stands and all sorts of wall storage can be made out of pieces of found wood. I've seen tree branches be used for shelving and twigs used as a jewelry stand.

DollarStoreCrafts.com may have some crafts you might like.

If your bed is raised off the floor by about a foot or so, you could get big plastic storage tubs to store your clothes that aren't in season, and rotate your wardrobe easily while saving space.

Try quilt making... quilts can be a work of art in themselves and just say cozy chic. It can really soften the edges of a hard lines of an ikea bed. Also try vintage pillows or fabric, go thrift shopping or check out garage sales for accessories you may not have thought of but would look perfect once in your room. For example I fount an extremely ornate BRIGHT pink picture frame I would have never guessed was my style but it looks so cute on my black shelves! The pop of color is great and the fanciness adds something special. Another idea is to use scrapbook paper to cover furniture (see my ikea dresser project) and maybe find a great funky light fixture to be the focal point of the room.

What ever you decide I totally encourage you to make a space that's all your own Happy

Love Emmyann07s idea about quilts (yes, I'm a quilter- and biased)

As far as storage- I ADORE this idea from YOUNGHOUSELOVE (<a href=http://www.younghouselove.com/2008/02/over-our-heads/>click here to see the post they talked about this</a>) of two tall bookcase turned closets, on the side of their bed to look like built ins. The photo here shows what it looks like, and of course the photo belongs to them on their site (credit where credit is due, of course).

I definately second emmyann and Maytag Suzanne, soft furnishings are the quickest way of making your room cosy and shabbychic. As well as cushions and blankets also try rugs. You can make crochet rugs, ragrugs and theres a great pompom rug on here.

I'm in the process of doing something similar to my room. I've just moved into a new shared house and although the room was large it really wasn't me, all red and bad terracotta paint jobs- blurgh! I've painted it off-white and it instantly looks bigger and brighter. I'm cuckoo about lamps at the moment (and also have fairy lights like in your inspiration pictures), as soft lighting straightaway makes everything much more cosy and intimate.

Thankyou everyone for your suggestions! I love the idea of making a quilt, I just need to find the time to do it! I might try it out over the christmas holidays. I also LOVE the ikea dresser upcycling, it looks amazing!

Is your furniture your own or do your parents consider it "theirs?" I say paint the furniture to shabby chic to match whatever ideas you have......ohh also try to taje something shabby looking that your parents whant to get rid of I have an old desk in my work room an old couch and a surround sound it is a cozy work room or even a small looking apartment...... I never have clothes, so I am lost for storage ideas, I say toss em, that makes room, but that is probably bad Krista! lol The picture is the desk in the room and the rolling chest, they look so cute and like a cottage room.....

I'd love to paint my furniture, but I'm not sure it's possible, or if it would look shabby chic! Its modern no handles style glossy furniture from ikea. Happy

ohhhh add handles to the furniture. Can you go to yard sales? Try to find old handles to add to the furniture and wallpaper too. I forgot that. There is this new trend of putting wallpaper on dressers, end tables, even bookshelves. If you have an old book shelf, put it in your closet (room permitting) and stack your clothes on that....... I just rearranged my work room again to put in an old aluminum computer desk, so the ideas are flowing. try totes that will fit under the bed that you can slide out like a drawer.....
