natural deodorant, anybody?

Ok. Deodorant. So, I don't want aluminum in my body, that stuff's not good. I've used Toms, but no good. I think I'm allergic to the zinc ricinoleate or the hops (I hope not for beer's sake!) Whenever I use it, my armpits start to peel, which is DEFINITELY NOT a pleasant experience!

I'm not looking for an antiperspirant, just a deodorant. Does anybody use one they like? I would prefer a natural one, and one that isn't a stick (like toms), because they always seem pretty tacky through the day. I am a hormonal teen, so I need a pretty strong deodorant, too!

Thank you for any advice!

DIY All-Natural Deodorant

1. Mix together ¼ cup of cornstarch with ¼ cup of baking soda

2. Optional: add your choice of essential oils if you'd like your deodorant scented

3. Add 2 tbsp. of coconut oil and a few drops of skin-softening, vitamin E

4. Blend everything together until it form a silky mass

5. Pack the mix into an old deodorant stick casing

Also historically women rubbed lemons under their arms to use as deodorent. I've heard from people who've had to use this form of deodorent as an experiment for 6 weeks that it didn't work very well but that also might have been because their clothes weren't clean and they only got to bathe once a week. I've read that putting lemon juice on in the shower for about 5 minutes before shaving and then washing it off works.

I used to make a deodorant powder from 1 part baking soda and 2 parts cornstarch and it really helps in the summer, but now that I am really busy I just use natures gate deodorant in spring fresh. It works really well and doesn't have any of the icky stuff in traditional deodorant.
For an antiperspirant though I have no idea, but I have heard that using rubbing alcohol to swab your pits (NOT AFTER YOU SHAVE) will decrease the amount of bacteria present, thus resulting in a more pleasant smell. I do this every once in a while, and I don't smell most of the time I sweat.

If you prefer not to use corn starch, you can mix witch hazel with baking soda and vegetable oils (shea butter is the best, followed by cocoa butter, coconut oil, and olive oil). Both are natural deodorizers. If you want to add any essential oils, keep these in mind:
Cirtus oils such as lemon, orange, lime, and bergamot help combat oily skin.
Lavender is good for eczema, dry skin, and other dry skin condition.
Peppermint is good for soothing irritated skin.
Eucalyptus helps calm inflamation (if you tend to get any sort of skin irritation after shaving.

Always use essential oils in small quantities--usually .5% or less is a good benchmark, especially for citrus and spice oils.

I know 3 people that literally just spray on rubbing alchol in their armpits in the morning.all 3 of them do not have a smell , like at all, ever, and I bike with 2 of them 2x a week. I only use deodrant when Im going to do something strenious and then not have time to shower, rest of the time I rock all natural. Tongue But Im a bit of a hippy when it comes to rubbing anything on my body, I dont wash and re use my plastic bags but yeah. Small bit of hippy!

My mom makes her own deodorant. All she does is mix coconut oil and whatever scented oil she wants to. It seems to work fine, although I'm not one for sniffing my mother's armpits..

buy some Himalayan salt sticks. just wet it and apply after your bath or shower. salt does wonders for keeping bad smell air away. not to mention your not clogging your pores with gunky stuff. and it doesn't leave a smell of its own. I used to have really bad B.O. until I started using salt sticks. now when I do smell its sweet smell instead of a musky one Happy
