What to do with Pumpkin Innards
Heya guys,
I'm Fen and I'm kind of new to all this, but...
Halloween is coming up, and me and my flat mates have carved a pumpkin. What do you guys do with the innards? I looked on the interent and pretty much everywhere just said "Make Soup/Pumpkin Pie", but I wondered if there were other options?
Thanks a lot guys!
By innards, I usually think of the seeds! Clean off all the surrounding goo and bake for about 10 minutes at 375 degrees or so. You'll know when they just barely start to turn brown. I also soak them for 24 hours in lightly salted water. Eat them whole.
I also save my pumpkin Mash, (After Halloween) for pumpkin soup that we have on Thanksgiving. You can freeze it nicely as long as you don't add the cream at the end.
Have fun!
You can bake the seeds.
But I assume you mean the stringy pumpkin gue that most people throw away. You can puree it and make pumpkin pie or pumpkin spice cake or cupcakes. Pumpkin is completely eatable- we've even fed our son pumpkin (he's 1).
Wow, Pinkweeds, I've never eaten the stringy stuff. Good tip.
Pumpkin bread <3 If I have time to bake it this year I will make a tutorial but otherwise, take a bread recipe and add some pumpkin and ginger. It's delicious.
I like using pumpkin goo as apart of my jack-o-lanterns. Last year I carved a face that looked like it was sneezing and put the goo around the mouth and nose to make it look better. This year I carved a pumpkin so that it had a big mouth with vampire fangs then I took a small white pumpkin and place it in the big one's mouth so it looked like it was sucking the little one's blood. I placed the pumpkin goo around the spot where the little one was bitten to make it look like its blood. My little brothers jack-o-lantern had X's for eyes and a frown to make it look like it was dead. Then he stabbed it with a knife, and put goo around the knife to make it look like its knife wound was bleeding.
Oh Anna Bean that sounds so amazingly disgusting! I typically just throw away the stringy stuff but this year I decided to try roasting the seeds and they were fantastic! I rinsed them off with cold water, let them boil in saltwater for 10 minutes, dried them, added sea salt to taste and baked them at 350 (Fahrenheit) for 10 minutes on each side. Make sure to check the inner seed while baking it cooks much faster than the outer seed and you dont want it to burn!
