Colourful Hair Question
I really want to dye my hair blue (or green) this summer but i'm not really sure how to.
I have light/med brown hair but I really don't want to bleach it. Is there anyway I can get away without bleaching it? The colour i'm looking for is either dark green or medium blue - not as dark as navy but not nicki minaj bubblegum blue! Something a bit darker than royal blue would be ideal, but I'm not really which shade it comes out at as long as it's blue.
I don't mind dyeing it more often if it would save bleaching.
Also, where can you buy dyes? I live in England so other than the internet is there any shops I can just walk into to find a cool colour?
Thanks,
I am, once again, clueless
Another question.
Could I just dye my hair really light blonde/white, then dye it blue instead of bleaching then dyeing it blue?
It's not entirely what you're looking for, but there's a blog called the dainty squid which has a three-part guide to dyeing hair: http://daintysquid.blogspot.com/p/hair-tips-and-tricks.html
I don't really know much, but if you didn't want to bleach your hair then maybe you could try just applying the dye over the top? You'd probably end up with more of a tint of the colour, but since the colours you're going for are dark then it might alright.
In terms of getting dye, lots of alternative clothing shops stock stargazer dye - I know the two shops in my are do, so maybe try somewhere similar? There's probably more choice on the internet though and if you look on amazon.co.uk then some of them might come with free shipping (super saver delivery is an absolute godsend lol). Good luck with your hair ^^
P.S. As far as I'm aware, you can't dye hair blonde if you're a darker shade already - you'd have to take out the (natural) pigment that's already in there, otherwise it won't show up. I might be wrong though...
okay, so I have about the same natural color as you, and wanted to dye my hair bright red. I was told It would have to be bleached. So now I have a wash out auburn.
I dont think dying your hair blonde and then blue would work. Think about your hair here! Its like a person. (kinda) thats wayyy to much dye for it.
I say try out temperary colors. Maybe you will hate yourself in blue hair and can't wait to take those 20 showers to get it out.
Also, it cost a lot to keep up dyed hair. You need to be able to afford the once a month root touch up and such. And once you dye it, your hair is like straw.T>T
This is what people have told me and what I have figured out. Hope I helped.
Oh! and Sally's Beauty Supply (or Sally Hansen) If you have one where you live, has good temperary gye fo like 6$ a pop. JUST WEAR GLOVES WHEN DYING! ~
oh, AAND
you could always buy a wig~
I've decided i'll just try without bleaching over my hair. I know it will just end up blue-ish or tinted but that will do me. I'm going to go for quite a dark blue so hopefully it'll work.
Thanks for the advice, though.
Oh and brook, good idea about the wig.
*However* Alongside mannequins, dolls, clowns and large pictures of people I get creeped out by wigs. Possibly the weirdest phobia ever.
Loreal has some new hair colors in their midnight collection that are pretty nice. I used a really dark purple in the collection and got exactly what I wanted. There's also a very dark blue in the midnight collection as well.
You should try Directions hair dye. I import it from the UK =] I love it so much. They have some really amazing shades and you can mix the colours to make it the colour you want
@rawr.rawr. I LOVE the directions colours! They are by far the best i've seen so far (not to mention about half the price!). By the look of your hair they work really well too! I know you'll have probably bleached your hair but, still.
My logic is (which is probably wrong) if the dye I use is darker than my natural shade it will show up better. I'm probably completely wrong but it's worth a go.
note: I do know how to spell dying (not dyeing). I just wasn't concentrating Oops.
hot topic was the clip in streaks and you can changes colors everyday if you want if you lift up a lil hair and clip them under they look real....other than that you can try dying it with kool aid or another powdered drink mix you can find directions online
I've bought some cheap hair dye to see how the blue will turn out before I splash out on manic panic or special effects... It will give me a rough idea at least.
I'd Love to see pictures!
I will deffo post pics if it works. Just got it cut pretty short yesterday to make things easier. I've also splashed out on manic panic and special effects so I'll see how they work. Just a few days of no conditioner now to get my hair nice and horrible
I have a feeling the dye may just run straight out because of the no bleach situation... only one way to find out (FIGHT!!!!).
*crosses fingers*
I'd also like to know how it turns out o:
cos from my personal experience (I've had pink, blue and purple in the last 3 months), you really need to bleach your hair in order to dye it a vibrant colour (and even if you don't bleach it enough, the temp dye will mix with the yellow and look disgusting)
I had to bleach my hair 3 times to get a light enough blonde for the colours to show (and it prolly would've been better to bleach it a 4th time)
my friend tried dying her hair purple without bleach, and it made her hair look brown instead :/
but if it's successful, kudos to you !
