hair dye

seeing as I'm addicted to hair dyeing (woo!), I'm starting a thread for me to ramble about hair dyeing...so yeah!

This weekend I'm re-dyeing my hair pink, because my red is fading out to a nasty blotchy orange/faded red...so pink it is! After that I'm gonna let it recuperate until the school year, then do a natural red or maybe black...so yeah!

Hair dyeing adventures? Is this already a thread and I'm just being annoying and troll-y (I hope not)?

Well.. mine used to be black with red on the bottom.. now its a faded gross colour.. I wanna go auburn or bright red or something.. but that'd mean bleach.

Courtney: LOL you make me laugh. I'd love to dye my hair but because naturally it's so dark it's not good at taking colour. I had it dyed purple but the purple ept coming out leaving the bleach blonde exposed, so I covered it brown so its like shades of lights brown and dark (being my natural colour) but even that's coming out a little bit, I can see blonde bits in my hair!!! Anyone have any suggestions? For now I'm having to use fake clip in coloured hair slides otherwise my hair would just remain so bland...

My hair is quite dark so I have to bleach it before dyeing. After a few washes the blonde starts to show but I kinda like it. It goes stripey=)
The dye I use does cover dark but isn't as vivid so I when I feel I'm looking *too* old to get away with bright purple I can stop bleaching and go dark=) As it is I bleach my roots every couple of months or so, it's a drag but worth it I think=)

Lolly - haha thanks ^___^ also, my natural hair color looks to be about the same as yours is (from your profile picture). this is what I did to keep the color in: after bleaching and dyeing i washed my hair every other day or every 2 days, depending on how lazy i was haha. the brand you use also affects it...i used Special Effects USA and it's the best dye out there in my opinion...manic panic is okay but SFX has better pigmentation and it stays in much longer...the red i had done in june stayed about that color for a month and would have stayed longer if i hadn't started to fade it to put in the pink...

my roots don't have that much time to grow out...especially as i'm switching colors after a month Happy also, what volume peroxide do you use? i want to try out 40 volume but i'm afraid that it'll make my hair fall out...i use 30 volume right now

I try not to wash my hair more than needed. Unfortunately my hair tends to get greasy quickly.

I had purple hair for a while then switched to burgundy which I then changed to red. I was blond before you knew it, but the transition was rather fun! Try to keep your hair moisturized, especially at the tips.

I've been coloring it a deep red for the past several months with Garnier Fructis' bamboo extract and it works like a dream.

Funny thing is, when I had bright orange/red hair, I tried to put purple streaks in, but they turned out hot pink! They really aren't kidding when they say that results on red hair aren't typical ha

Peroxide strength is based on the dilution so it's the % value you go on (the vol is the amount of oxygen it releases on decomposition=P). They reckon you shouldn't go higher than 6% for hair lightening but I use 12% (40 vol) and I still have hair=)

I used to change my hair colour all the time, where I used to work they would take bets on Fridays as to what colour my hair would be on Monday lol. I've been purple for a couple of years now but I may have to change as there seems to be no end of people getting purple bobs now, especially since that damn Kickass film *sigh*

Lauren - Oh I didn't know that! That sucks...I've definitely seen zero people with hair as colored as mine, which is probably predictable in small-town Texas haha.

Chelsea - Yeah, I avoid washing my hair until absolutely necessary, especially when it's freshly dyed because I want the natural oils to help it get its normal texture back. Haha I bleached out my red before putting in the pink...I wonder what color it would have been if I didn't? I'll probably dye my hair like a mahogany when school starts, as pink isn't allowed (which I think it should be, because if we're an IB school and supposed to be 'open-minded', shouldn't that apply to hair color too?!).

You can add a bit of hair dye to your regular conditioner and it won't fade as fast.
My school was quite posh and they went nuts over a pink streak I had, sheesh it was *only* a streak. Mind you it was back in the eighties, they probably thought I was eeevil lol.
I went to San Antonio once (which I know isn't a small town lol) and loads of people were freaked by my nose piercing. I was really surprised, it's nearly as common as ear piercing here=)

Chelsea: I do the same, my hair gets greasy pretty quickly. If I'm not going out I scrunch all my hair back into a high ponytail or bun and let it go greaasy for a few days. If I have to go out everyday or something I try to wash my hair no more than every other day. Blimey, what is your natural hair colour?

Courtney: Oh right those tips are sort of helpful. Thanks!! However that was the only time I ever bleached my hair and I got it done at a hair dressers so I wouldn't know. I saw a picture of me when I was about 16 and my hair was like a natural wine red kind of colour, at the time I didn't see how red it was. I was thinking of having my hair like that again maybe? Especially since I have the bleach in my hair. My roots are coming through a bit but not that much, considering I first dyed my hair purple just before my Granddad died, which was about 4 months ago? Ish?

Lolly - you're welcome Happy

Laurel - haha, yeah, they do that in Texas. I was at Ikea shopping for my new furniture (getting here in approximately 15 minutes! woo!) and a lady literally stopped in her tracks and said "oh my!" upon seeing my hot pink hair haha.

I think perhaps in the U.K. we have this impression that anything goes in America and no one will bat an eyelid if you look different, though that's probably only the case in some parts of L.A. and New York. That's what comes of getting all your info from the t.v. and movies lol.
Have to say I did enjoy Texas though and it is good to cause a stir=)

Haha well from living in the South all my life, I get the impression that NYC and LA is much more tolerant, too, but Austin, Texas, was really nice about it. It's basically the little blue dot in the red state haha. It is fun every now and then to get looks haha
