• 

  Step 1

  Transfer the eye motif (or, alternatively, you can use the iron-on transfer paper at the back of the book) onto the piece of fabric, then place into an embroidery hoop.

• 

  Step 2

  Start with the pupil of the eye using two strands of black and satin stitch. To create the light effect on the pupil, use three strands of white to work a couple of small straight stitches.

• 

  Step 3

  Fill the first part of the iris using satin stitch, worked in three strands of dark gold. Work the stitches from the outside edge in towards the pupil.

  Step 4

  Continue in satin stitch for the second part of the iris, this time using three strands of light golden olive. Once again, work the stitches from the outer edge inwards.

• 

  Step 5

  Outline the iris in split stitch using one strand of light brown.

• 

  Step 6

  Work the top outline of the eye in split stitch using three strands of medium apricot. Then stitch the bottom outline of the eye in split stitch using two strands of apricot.

• 

  Step 7

  For the sparkles, use one strand of precious metals dark gold to make short straight stitches.
