• 

  Step 1

  Make sure your hair is tangle free from root to tip. You can't braid hair with tangles.

  Then, create a small section at the top of your head.

  Step 2

  Separate that section into two smaller sections, then take a tiny bit of hair from the pre-existing right section, cross it over, and add it to the left. Then take a tiny section from the pre-existing left section and cross it over and add it to the right. That is a basic fishtail braid.

• 

  Step 3

  Now, from the right, separate a tiny section from the pre-existing right section and then take a tiny bit of hair from the hair BELOW the braid and add it to the tiny section and cross it over and add it to the left section.

• Step 4

  Take a small section from the pre-existing left, add a small bit of hair from below the braid, add it to the small section, and cross it over and it to the right.

• 

  Step 5

  Now, repeat.
  When you run out of hair to add to the smaller sections, just fishtail braid the rest, taking a small section from one side, cross it over, add it to the other side. Then, take a section from the other side, cross it over and add it to the other side,.
