• 

  Step 1

  Separate your hair into two even parts.

• 

  Step 2

  Separate a small section from the back of the left section.

• 

  Step 3

  Take that smaller section and cross it over the other section.

• 

  Step 4

  Then take a small section from the back of the right section.

• 

  Step 5

  Cross it over to the left section.

• Step 6

  Repeat: left to right, right to left.

• 

  Step 7

  In the end, this is what it will look like.

Well, yeah, I even said it right there in the description. My haior is too short to legitimately braid.

Essentially, yes. It's at the back of the braid, which, would be the front of the head, to be technical.
The perspective is from the back :]

Hi, when you say "The back of the left/right section" do you mean from the front of the head? (Ie, you have 4 sections instead of just three for a normal plait?) Ta!
