Frumpy plaid thrift store dress turned burly table dancing gear.
poor sewing skills + bad taste + ugly thrift find = outfit.

I saw this long, hideous plaid dress in Goodwill for a few bucks and wanted to make a Halloween costume out of it. I've named this atrocity The Lumberjackie. Unfortunately I changed jobs and wasn't able to get out for Halloween.

I cut the long skirt off and resewed it into a bustle skirt and created the waistband and ruffles out of some black fabric I had left over from a different project. I made the dress strapless, lined the top with heavy interfacing and added boning to make the corset.

I don't have a good photo of the front yet, but it looks like a button-down plaid workshirt with a faux collar and pockets. I made a halter strap (removable and adjustable) that looks like suspenders.

They ARE a pair of those ridiculous hiking boots : ) I like to think the four inch heels (I'm really short) keeps me above the snow. And DarkAshHurts, I would totally post directions if I had any idea how I made this, but I'm afraid it looks the way it does by a series of mistakes, then trying to figure out a way to un-make them. Usually by making a different one.... as far as the bustle, I used this how-to:
