Simple and stylish!
Make a reversible hat and vest for American Girl dolls (or other 18" dolls)!
Note: This pattern was adapted from a similar pattern in The Quilted Clothing Collection by Ed and Stevie Baldwin (pg. 41).

Step 3
Pin the two dark hat pieces together (right sides together) and, using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew around the outer edge of the circle. Pin the dark vest pieces together (right sides together) and sew along the shoulders and the sides, leaving the arm holes open. Then do the same with the respective light pieces.

BONUS: If you save the inside pieces of the hat brim, you can make a matching purse for your doll as well! Just sew them together as you did the hat, turn them right-side out, fold it in half to look like a taco, and sew up the sides part-way (leaving the top of the "taco" open). I added a small snap on the inside to help it stay closed, and two eyes from a hook-eye closure on either side to which I tied a length of ribbon. I tied the ribbon at the top to make it look like it was meant for a bigger doll, giving the illusion that my dolly is borrowing "Mommy's" purse!
