Stuffing

How can I make stuffing go further? I like to stuff my plushies/cushions quite firm so when they have been used a lot they arent small. This means I go through a lot of stuffing. I don't know how to make it go further or where to get some cheap/big bags of it?
Also, what is the stuffing-type thing that I have seen sold in fabric shops on a roll like fabric is? What can it be used for?

Sometimes I add bits of scrap fabric to my stuffing to make it go further. I tried to just use scraps for stuffing, but I don't like how the end result feels. Hope I helped a bit. Happy

kinda helpful, but i dont have any scraps, all the scraps i use for small things like eyes so the only scraps i really have are tiny like fluff.
once i used napkins from a fast-food restaurant (M) i ripped them up, it made the plushie rustle, but there was no firmness to it, although it was slightly shape-able

try cheap cushion pads(about £1.50 in somewhere like Wilkinsons whereas equivilant weight bag of toy stuffing costs around £3).
Also the insides of old duvets/quilts!

Oh, I never thought of using napkins. Sometimes I cut open old pillows or stuffed animals. I use the stuffing for plushies and things and the fabric for a different project. I've heard of some people who use packing peanuts, but that would probably rustle. I suppose old shredded t-shirts could work, too, but they wouldn't feel the same.

cheap cushions could work, i'll have to look, and they would b great for stuffing a cushion with definately!
but what is the stuffing on a roll thing? it feels kinda rough to touch

The "stuffing on a roll" thing has got me stumped. I really don't know. I'll have to think about it.

You might be talking about wadding (?) for quilting

it may well be wadding, ive only seen it labled as stuffing. i didnt know quilts were stuffed, i just thought they were a couple of layers of thick fabric with fleece in the middle and a decoration (patches) on top.

The stuff on a roll does sound like wadding to me - my local fabric shop has mahoosive rolls of it in different weights. I guess it's meant to be used for quilting, although anything that I make which is plush gets filled with it Happy

I think it's just called different things depending on whether it's going inside a quilt (wadding) or inside something else (stuffing).

I used the stuffing on a roll "batting" in the USA for this project. I am assuming this is what you mean? We use it for the middle of quilts (to retain heat and keep fabric smooth and fluffy) and under upholstered things.

As for plushies and my stuffed felt food I just use the innards of a bed pillow! Happy It is way cheaper and works the same if not better. Check out IKEA I believe they are a cheaper home decor store in the UK, correct me if I am wrong.

You can also use cotton rounds and cotton balls for stuffing too. Its usually 99c a bag or cheaper depending on the dollar store you shop at.
