Tips on The French Knot?

I've tried doing it over and over again, but doing it in the book makes it come out the end flat....and idea what i could be doing wrong, or how to do it differently??

how do you mean it comes out flat? it's not supposed to be perfectly spherical.

what i do is depending on how big I want the knot, I wrap the thread around the needle once or twice, and then I poke the needle back through the hole I came up in (or very near to it) and I keep hold of that little loop that forms whilst i'm pulling the thread through, so that the loop goes away.
i'm not explaining this very well.

This might help: http://www.needlenthread.com/2006/11/french-knot-video-tutorial.html

PS if you think french knots are hard, just wait till you get to bullion knots!

it turns into a normal stich, or if i pull it through the same hole it disappears altogether, it blows, but i'll look at the site, thans Roma

I wrap the thread around the needle twice and put it back into the fabric very close to the first erm hole I find that the trick is to keep the thread pulled as tightly as you can right up until the needle is actually through the fabric Happy took me a while to grasp it too and I had somebody actually showing me hehee
