Mod Podge?

Okay so I've actually never used Mod Podge before!

A lot of crafts I am seeing use it. Can you tell me more about it?

To my understanding I can use it as a glue and then use it to make something look glossy, like a varnish?

I'm attempting to update my boring file cabinet, so should I go out and buy some mod podge? If so, what kind?

Snap! Ive never heard about mod podge until this site...
Is it the same as PVA? is Mod podge cheap to buy?

Mod Podge is a decoupage medium, it is used both as a glue and a sealant. It has various finishes, gloss, satin etc and I believe (though I'm not 100%) that you can get a textile version.
I make my own from 3 parts wood glue to one part water, though you can only get a satin finish with that.
Mod Podge isn't terribly cheap (compared to PVA or wood glue) but check out eBay, sometimes there are bargains to be had there.

Yeah I'm really glad someone asked, because I'm a little clueless on it too. Laurel, does the wood glue (with water) work just as well as Mod Podge?

Yep, I got the recipe from instructables and I use it all the time. You just can't get a high gloss finish with it.

EDIT: If you whack on about 4 or 5 coats it does end up glossier (if that's a word).

Thanks for the info...So I went out and bought some mod podge...

I bought just the normal kind, it says waterbase, sealer, glue and finish.

They had a paper mod podge that I was considering, but I opted out. I'm redoing my file cabinet with scrapbook paper and I figured normal mod podge would work fine.

I will let you guys know how it goes!

Does anyone know where I can buy mod podge, specifically fabric mod podge in the UK? I've found loads of American sites but they don't ship outside the US.

They sell fabric mod podge and I believe they deliver almost everywhere. They had UK in the address country pull down menu.

I buy all tons of stuff on amazon...it's like a second home lol.
