I would definately recommend customising some of your clothes; whether it is some clothes you already have, or things from second hand stores or charity shops. You could change a shirt into a dress, for example, or it could be as simple as changing the buttons on a cardigan so they are all odd, because no one else would have one like it. Or I like to make brooches to put on coats or tops just to make it that bit different - it is basically doing something to your clothes to leave your mark, whether it is a big or small change. Also, a statement piece of jewellery can often help to individualise (is that even a word?!) an outfit. My personal favourite option for a new style would be buying vintage or retro clothes, but this can be more expensive, and it depends what your taste is.

I hope I have helped you, rather than just rambled on. Please tell me if I have made no sense!!

What kind of style do you have in mind?
It's a good idea to buy plain basic items from primark, cheaply, then splash out on one or two good accessories (Try TK MAXX for cut price designer stuff, or even ebay)
Plain primark t shirts etc. are great for customising....if I had an idea what kind of style you would like, I could give you some suggestions, but be warned, I tend towards the dark side!!!

haha thanks for more advice... i have a ton of plain primark tops, so i need lots of ideas for those... any suggestions would be great for customising- as long as they arent too "dark side"ish!! i would be really grateful, as i'm not entirely sure of my style yet, just want to have fun finding out! will try ebay too... using my mums account since i'm only 15!! The plain primark tops would look good with an iron on tattoo style print ( if you like that sort of thing), and how about decorating some with studs using plain silver "iron on nailheads"
I like to combine iron- ons with some hand painting.... if you like the idea, but have difficulty getting supplies, let me know and I'll tell you where to get stuff.

that would be good... i like the sound of that!! where would you get the iron-on tattoo things from, and also the nailheads things too? i'd like to try more hand-painting, but need a fabric paint which means the garment its on can be washed normally rather than in cold water like the ones i already have, if you see what i mean!? any ideas? thanks for the help!! Happy

Here is a £1 Primark tshirt with an iron- on and nailhead studs, and Primark shoes £2 - £3 a pair with iron-ons ( the hearts on the KH ones are nailheads)
You have to get the iron on transfers, get your images and print them on your computer and iron on. The nailheads are from a supplier called "crystalsareus" on ebay
if you like I can send you a sheet of transfers ready printed and a few nailheads so you can try before you buy!!

well, I am so broke, so i have to be creative. What i like to do is go to thrift shops and get a whole bunch of stuff (alot of times they have bag sales). If i like a shirt but it is 10x too big, i put a funky belt around it. I put skirts over pants, sweaters under shirts, whatever i can to make an interesting outfit. By the way, you can usually get really, really cheap vintage jewelry from thrift shops. Also, get fashion scarves. I use them as belts, head bands, around my neck or around my waist (a good way to cure a boring shirt). I don't really have a specific style. I mix together retro, hippie, victorian, emo, basically anything i like. if it sounds like chaos, it is. I just make sure everything is balanced. Definitly check out your thrift stores. Well, sorry to ramble, and have fun! I hope i made a little sense, i'm really tired today!

I'm in a similar predicament as you shortandsweet, this has really helped me. I've also found alot of people on CO+K use stencils and either use some sort of acrylic paint or spray paint some pictures onto plain clothing too...
