Dear my Generation:
Mi.ezekatze - Love your response.
most of my friends don't dress overly sexy or act slutty. i'm 16, and while my friends don't do much stuff like that, i do see girls walking around my school dressing way too old for their age. like 11 or 12 year old girls dressed in clothes i wear since what, 15? when i was 10 or 11 and on primary school, i wore baggy shirts that i got handed down from my nephews with cartoon characters like will e coyote and the tazmanian devil on them. not tight fit tees with low necklines, lipgloss, heels and that sort of stuff. and the little sister of a friend of mine is 9 or 10 years old, and she wears the clothes my friend wore at 14...
i don't wear much make up. if i can choose between putting on makeup in the morning before school or eating a sandwich, i always choose the sandwich. if i go out, i do wear a little bit of makeup. as if in mascara and some eyeliner. i don't even have anything else. i just don't use it.
and i got my first phone when i was 12. it was a huge thing, barely even fit in my pocket. i only got it because i went on a holiday with my brother and father and my mom wanted to stay in touch. and it was years and years old, it had been my moms old phone and i think it was my 2 year older brothers first phone too.
you could call with it. maybe text. but that was it, and i was fine with that.
girls that are 15 or 16 and pregnant are not seen as normal or acceptable in my environment. the girls i go to school with want to go to university and getting pregnant is not a part of the plan. lots of my friends don't even want kids, especially not before they've finished their educations.
and i try to be polite. holding open doors for, for example, older people and saying hello to people you run into is just good manners...just like getting up if an older person wants to sit and there are no open seats.
politeness and decency just aren't valued much anymore, and they should be.
