What I usually did was take a deep breath, approach them, and then just talk to them casually. "Hi, my name is ___. I think I've seen you before. _(his name)_, right? Blah, blah, blah, some interesting subject, blah, blah, blah, crack a joke..."

In short I'd have to go with the cliche, just be yourself.
