Corest Making
Has anyone here tried to make their own corsets? I've made a couple that were pretty light-weight, but I've never tried working with anything hard like metal or bone (eek!).
I would love to attempt this! love corsets
I've not done more than basic sewing. I'd love a leather corset. The one I have is from Fredrick's of Hollywood - shiny and red. I'd invest in more, but I hardly have occasion to wear the one I have.
I would also like to make one. I've looked into it but there is so much info on period design, materials, fit, and pattern making vs premade pattern I have all but given up.
I want there to be an all encompassing site that you can plug in measurements & era and it will tell you how to make it without 70 measurements to size up or where to buy a similar pattern.
Cat I d love to learn how to make one, do you have a pattern ?
i would love to try making one. i have sewn lots of wedding stuff with boning, and corset-looking stuff but not an honest to goodness corset. i came across this site a couple of days ago and wanted one! but totally out of my price reach, so i'll have to try making one! here: http://www.darkgarden.com/

I want to soooo bad, it will have to wait till next summer when I have more time I want to make one with plastic boning to start out...then after that a steel boning one!
i love corsets too but my sewing skills arent up to par
Corsets aren't too hard, really. first one I made was a velveteen underbust that took less than a full day to finish. I used the instructions from
http://costuming.org/waisteddotcom/waisteddotcom.htm
It shows how to make a custom-fitted pattern, and goes through all the little techniqes to make it really professional. (and wrapping yourself in duct tape is FUN!) I made mine lace up in the front and back, so I didn't need a busk, just some boning. (if you're making one that really shrinks your waist, use STEEL, not the plastic stuff from the fabric shop, the plastic stuff doesn't provide any real support.
awesome!! So happy for the link!
