Old Injury Issues Anyone?
I broke my left wrist last year (actually on the day before halloween, so its almost been a year now). I was a passenger in a (flipping) car accident, with my best friend. Luckily i was the only one hurt ...well except for her totaled car. lol
But now my wrist constantly aches sometimes. Especially when it gets cold. I'm really not looking forward to it getting cold outside. >.< My doctor told me the wrist was one of the hardest breaks to heal. But it aches so bad, and theres nothing i can do but try to warm it up and massage it. But IT IS SO ANNOYING!
Does anyone else have any old injuries that fuel their frustration?
Yep but you really don't want to have my medical history online !
That said I wear lots of scarves and buffs ( can you guess the area involved ?)
May be you create a collection of funky gloves fingerless or otherwise to keep your wrist supported and warm. You could be the new one glove trend setter in your area.
I made a rice bag heat pad from this site recently and it's the best.
I used to think it was an old wives tale when people said you could feel winter/rain coming in an old break, but you totally can
I broke my foot a coupla years ago, and my ankle when The Teen was a baby; and both throb at times.
Massage, keeping it snug & exercising it are the best ideas.
Rice/Wheat heat bags rock
On a cycling website I've seen gloves made with pockets to put heat packs in. Easily adaptable I think. Or make a wrist cuff with a pocket and make a heat pack to fit
I was intrigued when my OH told me you get motorbike gloves that have a heating element in them for winter riding.... I did wonder about the idea of plugging a battery into your hands so bought him heated grips for the handlebars instead. Now when he rides home with snug toasty hands its because they're warmed by loving thoughts... AWWWWW
It is arthritis I believe, heat and anti-inflammatories work well... we wont go into how I know this, but we'll say I have lots of experience lol
I had a head injury over a year ago and still get frequent headaches and muscles spasms in my back. It can be very frustrating at times, especially since I also have trouble now with memory, concentration, and my thought process.
Finding a way to relax helps a lot. So does stretching and medication. lol
Using what has been injured is very important, although it will probably be painful at first. In therapy, they explained that if your back is injured AND weak it won't be able to take much stress without causing you a lot of pain. But if your back muscles surrounding the injured area are strong, then you/ll be able to withstand more stress before you start to feel pain.
So you have to train yourself to use your wrist more to get it stronger. That way you can use it more before it starts to swell or ache or whatever.
Nice to know other people have problems too! lol I'm just glad mine isnt as serious. The ache is more annoying then anything. It doesnt hurt at all.
I do wear gloves/wrist warmers etc. when it gets cold. And it helps a lil bit. Ive seen those glove warmers too! People at football games here have them. lol I definetely need to get me some, especially with the upcoming winter. The first few months of this year when it was cold was really bad...dont want that again.
I do need to exercise it more, i admit. :/ I was gonna take a yoga class as therapy, but never got around to it. I do tons of crafts daily and can only hand-sewn things, so its gotten lots of exercising doing that. I really need to do more tho.
@ Lisa: I know that breaking something can lead to arthritis in the future. But the more u exercise it, the better it will be later.
The guitarist from Korn (his names Munky), actually first took up guitar after he broke his wrist when he was a teen. Because his doctor told him to exercise it. Now he has no problems, and is a badass millionaire. lol XD So theres hope for us all!
I almost lost my ankle in a bicycle accident when I was on holiday in Belgium around the age of 10. They didn't sew it back on properly so now the scar tissue is slowly grinding away my bone if I move my ankle too much, which means I can't do any sport which involves running or anything else that need ankle use. It really hurts after walking long distances too. The doctors say there's nothing they can do to fix it..
omg thats terrible rawr. Thats crazy they cant find a way to fix it either, in todays day and age and all. jeez horrible doctors.
That made me feel like a terrible whiner now. lol You all are such strong people. I've had some horrible illness'/injury's also in my life, but luckily theyve all been able to be fixed (besides some hearing loss from one).
On a completely unrelated matter - I love your hair DarkAshHurts
