What is your City called?
Now I am not sure if this happens everywhere but nicknames for citys/towns and such are very popular in Canada.
I live in Edmonton, Alberta which on the welcome sign says, ' Welcome to Edmonton, The City of Champions.' This is from our haydays of having some of the best sports teams.
Edmonton is also known as The City of Festivals, going to one newspaper and checky the things happening tonight Friday night. 31 one day events, 68 multi day events, 11 repeating events. In summer time this get silly of how many things happen in the city. The Fringe Festival a week long mayhem of theatre that takes over the whole community of Whyte ave. Art walk is a weekend where artist set up small stalls and tables all over Whyte ave, again taking over. Zombie walks which happen twice a year attacking Whyte ave and Downtown.
Then on the flip-side some people refer to Edmonton as DEAD-monton. I hear so many people complain about the 'lack' of things to do. So what about where you live? Lived?
Down here in the lower 48, I live smack dab in the middle. St. Louis, MO is known as "The Gateway To The West"! OH, and FYI, the state of Missouri is known as "The Show Me State" (we don't believe anything until we've seen it with our own two eyes)!
I live in Akron OH. It's often called the Rubber City because all the major tire and rubber manufacturers were headquartered here. We still have schools, parks, streets etc. named after Goodyear and Firestone.

I live in Pretoria, South Africa, known as the Jacaranda city because of all the Jacaranda trees.
