odd questions??

Okay I am curious now, I was in the process of pealing a potato cause I wanted to cut it up and snack on it, yes raw. I use to snack on them when I was little especially when my mom sliced them up for french fries. Well Then my husband comes in the kitchen and tells me eating raw potato gives ppl ringworm...and imediently I got disgusted and threw it away. Happy

My question is...is it safe to eat a raw potatoes???

when I was a kid I loved to eat raw potato with a little salt.
I've never heard of someone getting ring worm from them.
ring worm is a type of rash, its not a parasite or anything so I doubt it.

you can't, you get ringworm from unsanitary conditions

Ringworm is a fungal infection I think, so unless the potato was dodgy you couldn't get ringworm from it. And as the potato was peeled then there's even less chance of getting anything nasty from it, because all the yuck would've been on the skin and you won't be eating that.

You should be careful. Raw potatoes contain toxines although not much and you'd have to eat lots of them before it will harm you. Green potatoes though contain larger quantaties of solanine which is poisanous. If you leave them out in the sun they will turn green and also unripe potatoes are green. The skin contains most solanine so it's good that you peel them.

Wow I didn't know all of that about potatoes. Its good to know, I always remember being told not to eat them and knew about green potatoes but never had any idea why I shouldn't eat them raw, I just figured they wouldn't taste good.
btw ringworm is like athletes foot but effects other parts of the body.

Like Izzy said, it is a fungal infection. I used to get them a lot when I lived in a house that had a bad mold problem, needless to say I moved. The infected area has a round shape to it and it gets bigger if you don't treat it and it's very itchy. I hated them. Yeah, it had nothing to do with potatoes.
