Goth Costumes
Me and my friend are gonna be goth twins for Halloween. I was wondering if somebody could like tell me about goth... I already know what goth is and everything but, there might be something I don't know... Idk.... But are there any cheap goth stores?? Is there anything specific that most goths wear?? Anything specific to female goths?? Anything I should know?? My friend and I are freaking out!!! We're thinking "should we wear skirts?!? What should we wear?!? How much is this gonna cost?!?!?" Anything I should know? Anything at all?!?!?!? Tell me about goth!!! I'm sorry for anybody I offend...
You can probably find some great stuff at thrift stores. Look for things kind of victorian looking ( think ruffles and lace) Look for long black skirts or short skirts and get some fun tights with spiderwebs on them or something, you can usually find them at costume shops or sometimes even Walmart or dollar stores have cheap accessories.
For the top, a blouse with a fitted vest would be cool.
If you have a Hot Topic near you, you could get some ideas or just buy stuff there, but that might get expensive for something you wouldn't really wear again.
And lots of black eyeliner!
Hope that helps!
Well, although I don't tend to approve of dressing up as a stereotypical member of any subculture for Halloween, I suppose I can disclose what I know about the gothic look. First of all, there are many, many different types of goth. There's romantic goth, punk goth, club goth, etc. For a romantic goth look, a velvet or satin dress with bell sleeves, a silver pendant, some black mary jane shoes or ankle boots would do. The makeup would consist of foundation, powder, a deep red lipstick, and kohl-lined eyes with black mascara. For a punk-goth look, ripped black fishnets, combat boots, an asymmetrical skirt, a tight-fitting dark colored t-shirt or a corset top. Makeup would emphasize the eyes - use heavy black liquid eyeliner and a complementary colored shadow for a dramatic look. For club goth, which is what a lot of modern goths tend to be, you'd need to wear fishnets (black or otherwise), a mini-skirt that barely covers your behind, "stripper heels" or fetish boots(very high heels, or boots made from patent leather or vinyl), fake multi-colored pigtails or other fake hair extensions, a tight, low-cut corset or other top, and enough make-up to clog your pores for a year.
(As you can probably tell, I'm not fond of club goths.) Now that I've told you that, please don't dress up as a goth. It's expensive in most cases, especially if you're just doing it once. The least expensive would probably be "basic goth" - do the same make-up as the romantic goth look, but wear a basic outfit - a fitted black button-down shirt and a dark pinstripe skirt, for example. Add some mary janes or a cute ankle boot and you'd be good to go. But the main point I want to convey here is that even though it's for Halloween, it's probably not worth it unless you happen to find a gothic thrift shop (which don't generally exist since goth clothes are expensive and people don't tend to get rid of them often.)
Beware if you see any year-round goths, though. They like to remind people that goth isn't all about the clothes; it's a lifestyle. (I can almost guarantee that you and your friend will be recongnizable as non-goths.) But if you still want to go for it, good luck.
I'm with Rainbow. You're in serious danger of offending some goths, and thosed are people you do NOT want to fuck with. But if you are gonna go for it, you'll have to be verrrry creative to avoid spending a ton of money
I know a lot of goths and "witches" and people who claim to be vampires and they wouldn't be offended by someone in a costume, it's Halloween and most won't be taken too seriously. Keep it in good taste and you should ne fine.
Well I used to be a goth and I'm offended by it. It suggests that a certain way of life is something to laugh at. When you dress up on Halloween, you dress as something funny or something stupid or scary. It's not fair to make fun of entire group of people.
It wouldn't be making fun of anyone, maybe she just likes the look of the costume. It doesn't have to be negative.
...someone who doesn't know a single thing about goths is dressing up as one on the day of the year you dress up as things for fun? Even if it's not meant to be negative, it'll be taken that way
I agree with kitten, I have friends who are goth. And its a way of life. People these days are very sensitive about who they are, going as a goth could seem like you are poking fun, even if you are not.
why don't you go as twin vampiress's or dark faries? Or dead cheerleaders? Its along the same theme but less offensive
oooh the dark fairies are a good idea you can get creative there!
see awsome huh?!
you can make some wings out of wire, electric or duct tape and black panty hose and then pretty it up with glitter and what nots and use ribbon to wrap around under your arms and poof fairy wings.
those are good ideas, it might easier too, and you could probably make alot of it yourself.
Dead cheerleaders are REALLY easy too, you just need a ra-ra skirt, a vest top, splatter them with blood, wear high heels or trainers, hair in bunches, ghoulish makeup etc
Goths don't scare me..... Nobody scares me! People are scared of me.... If anybody tries anything just cuz I offended them, they're at serious risk for broken limbs! I'll mess with them and they won't do a thing! I don't care if I offend them. Goth just looks good for Halloween!
Gosh you're big and tough!
