Sewing Machine Needle Keeps Snapping. Please Help!!!
I just bought a second hand sewing machine but when I'm sewing my needle keeps snapping - I've broken 3 this week. Any tips?!
What kind of fabric are you using? My needles tend to snap when I'm sewing with heavy-weight fabric and the wrong type of needle.
I agree with Cat. It all depends on what type of fabric you are using and if the needle is made for that type of fabric. For canvas weight, or multiple layers of fabric (like when sewing up a handbag) I use a size 100/16 needle. For quilting cotton with just 2 layers a 80/12 will work just fine. Let me know if this helps.
I'll try, thanks for your help!
Hope you're all sorted now, but if you're still having problems it's also worth checking that the needle is in securely and you've tightened the screw as much as you can. If it isn't secured the movement of the machine can cause it to move off course and hit the needle plate which will break it. Happy sewing!
