CALLING ALL SEWISTS!

I just found the funnest tutorial on making a romper/playsuite!!! I'm just learning to sew on a machine and it seems like a great beginner project!

I'm sure most of you are skilled at this whole 'making clothes' thing and can help! So, I have 3 questions...

1. How do I measure my body to figure out how long I need to make the torso/leg portion?
2. Can someone explain to me why part of her pattern curves out? (Obviously it works but I like to know exactly what I'm looking at..what is the curved part going to be? And how do I know how much to curve it?)
3. How do I sew elastic into the leg bands?

Oh, and here is the original tutorial!

Anyways, I hope someone an explain it to me! I haven't posted a project in FOREVER and I'd love for a romper to be my next one! OH! And I'm working on a new purse too..I can't wait to show you guys!

THANKS THANKS THANKS!

ohhh that is super cute!

Im not super skilled but I'll let you know what I think. I taught myself so I don't really know all the technical language.

1. I would take a measuring tape and measure from under you bust to your crotch and then from your crotch to where you want it to hit on your thigh. It kind of ties in with your second ?

2. the curved part is the butt part. You can see from the pic that there is a seam that runs down the middle of the romper. So after you take you measurements you can adjust the pattern for your different lengths. You can use a good fitting pair of pants as a reference for the curve. You just turn them inside out and then put one leg inside the other.

3. This one is a little harder to explain. I suggest going on youtube and looking a some sewing vidoes. Im a visual learner so videos were really helpful for me when I needed different techniques.

Hope this helps! (This is my first post!)

Awww, that does help! Thanks so much! I'm glad to find someone else who taught themself! It seems like everyone who sews has a mother or grandmother who does..except moi, lol. But, I love it! I can't wait to understand it better! I'll post it on my page when I finish it..I think I'll start it this weekend..since it's my first clothing project it should be interesting, lol! All I've sewn so far are bows and cupcake plushies...

Anyways, yay! Thanks!
