Hippies: How To Be One.
Hi Ruby. The problem I have with that post is the tone and the language. It is nasty and damn rude. It's not in keeping with the spirit of this site. Everyone has their own opinion which is great but I feel Samsquanch went too far.
I agree with Sheila, I find Samsquanch's post offensive, rude and unnecessary. It adds nothing to the discussion and is not the kind of thing suitable for this site.
Samsquanch...hippies = love and peace!
OK guys, well I'm going to remove it. I agree with you, at first I thought no-one would agree with me but I did message Samsquanch asking to edit but nothing back so I will go and remove it!
Thanks guys.
Good for you Ruby. Not a nice thing for new members to see.
ok i use harsh language and maybe i was out of line i relies that but i only did because others are criticizing my friend, some are picking at hot cooc for stating something she likes or has an opinion i may feel a lil angered because of that and this is the internet you will meet people you wont like yet you take away something that they may believe its called freedom of speech where i come from that allowed and encouraged and in the 60s-70s hippies wore army jackets and leather jackets and im guessing not all hippies were veg so some probly did wear leather
I seriously think you have the wrong end of the stick here...
I wasn't taking away your "freedom of speech" and as you said in the email 'other people use that language all over the internet', yeah great! NOT. Do you really want to be one of those people? I don't look at their posts and think they got their point across in a very 'grown up' manner.
I have nothing wrong with the person who started this thread neither do I have anything against the thread subject itself, hence why I never posted in here before you made your comment because I didn't have anything to say about the matter. I'm not taking sides here and no-one else is either.
We're just upset because a lot of young people come on here and yes there is swearing on this site but within reason! You quite blatantly swore AT someone! That is the problem here. Criticism is how we get on in life. If you can't take it you aren't going to get anywhere!
Thank you for coming in to 'apologise' though.....
OK, so I didn't see what Sam originally posted, but yeah man, there are kids on here. Don't swear.
Yes, I know Samsquanch. We've known each other since like.. 7th grade. I took him shopping so he could get some t-shirts because he wanted me to tie-dye them.
btw im a young person....just thought you should know
haha I just got done rambling about how hippies drive me crazy, well, the hippies you are describing here anyways.
And I thought hippies were some rule free, tree hugging people, not some sub-governmental society of sorts?
If you're a young person you shouldn't even be using that language anyway!! Or maybe respect yourself enough to not show yourself up using it in that way!
Hot Coco ~ Glad you're not taking any of this heart and getting on with it ;) true hippie style there!!
Samsquanch you are obviously a creative person who really shouldn't need to resort to profanity full stop. Watch and learn my friend:

Based on this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEacXeAbHpQ&feature=fvw
Based on a play written in 1897 by Edward Rostand. Profanity is just vulgar and, these days, not shocking in the slightest. Show your intelligence with eloquence and (a) you will find more people willing to listen to your point of view and (b) even if they disagree with your point of view there will be reasoned debate as there has been in this thread.
Hot Coco has made some interesting points which have been debated but they were in no way personal attacks on her. Where the tone may have been judged wrongly the writer has apologised. That's the way things work and is much more in the spirit of hippydom than many other sites I have been on.
I look forward to knowing you better,
Bryony
I love the debating going on here..
Yeah, I'm not taking anything personally. I've been bullied, so I've learned to let things slide and not get mad about anything.
Sam.. just.. don't swear. That's all we're getting at.
Those links are hilarious btw, especially the first one btw
Thank you Lolly they are two of my favourite films! x
My issue with the OP is it seems more a checklist of how to dress as/come across as a hippy rather than starting with the core philosophies- it seemed to be almost like the instrustions for a hippy costume with the reasons tacked on after.
Like many people have mentioned- starting from that standpoint you get carbon copy 'individuals' all being different and rejecting cliquey popularity by, well, forming their own cliques (which usually have their own popular groups, bullying etc' within them).
On a more fundamental level, starting with the outside means some things get muddled, message-wise. For example the the stuff about old cars. Yep love bugs used to be great BUT now we know/have issues with global warming etc', choosing an older vehicle (maybe not set up for unleaded petrol, in any case a bit 'thirsty') might look hippy but is probably less hippy-mindset than a hybrid or using the bus!
And even on a fashion level:
'MAKE-UP:
Hippies do not wear make-up. If they do (which is very, very seldom), it has to be all-natural, paraben and fragrance free, and of course, not tested on animals.'
What, no face paints? And as for make-up- many female and male hippies I know are partial to it, along with henna'd and bleached hair.
I dunno, it just seems to be all about the visual and pandering a bit to stereotypes/what the TV says hippies are.
