What do you do with your projects?
I was wondering, I've seen some people with lots of posted projects (200+, wow!) and I was wondering, what do you do once you're done? I doubt anyone keeps every creation they make, I know I sure don't have room to. I usually keep my favorites, and give away the rest to my friends. Or my dog, if it's soft, chewy and made of durable fabric.
So, what do you do with them? Gift? Donate? Swap? Scrap? I'm curious what ways everyone has for getting rid of projects after they've simply run out of room to keep them all
Lots, if not most, of my projects are for gifts or swaps Some are food, and those don't take up space because we eat them right away, lol. I have so many projects posted that when I go through them I find ones I forgot I did! Some are things I make for my home or my self and they usually aren't anything huge. But I also have a pretty large 2 bedroom apartment with just me and my hubby, so I have lots of storage space for seasonal things and lots of places to display projects. If I starts to feel cluttered I go throught and decided which items I might not like as much, like maybe they were trial runs white making a pattern or something, for those items I try and salvage as much material as possible from them. Like if it's some jewelry I decided I don't like as much I take it all apart and save the beads, chain, clasps. Or if it's a crocheted I unravel the yarn and keep it, same for sewin projects that didnt turn out. If I can't salvage them then the go in the trash, unless they are actual useable items then they get donated.
Those sound like really things to do with projects. The useful ones are probably the ones everyone keeps, like cozies or clothes, but as for the not-so-useful things like simple toys, donating them sounds like a pretty good idea. Thanks for your reply! ^^
A lot of stuff I make is usually gifts or things I put up for sale.
Though I've only recently gotten back into crafting, so I don't have a lot of stuff, yet. lol
I craft as a hobby and when things start to pile up on me I throw a little party. I invite friends over that like my crafts and give them my extras. An sometimes I donate my projects and left over supplies.
My crafts are usually practical items made for myself or for specific people. I make a lot of dresses, scarves and things to organize. Sometimes people will request either some shorts or a top or a hat and I'll make that... I've even made curtains for a very odd sized window at my brother's request. Crafts always make good gifts though, especially when you're on a budget. Even if you don't have the money, the time and care you put into it an item really shows. Sometimes I'll pass some clothes I've made onto my sisters. I'd like to sell things if I could but it requires a little more dedication then I'm able to give at the moment.
While I love when my crafts have a useful function for me its always been more about the act of creating then the final product.
I'd say half the time I make them as gifts
I keep my favorites
Sometimes I'll make a whole bunch and sell them at craft/accessory bazaars if I think they're good enough
gifts mainly, also swaps and very occasonally i treat myself and make something just for me!
I always try to make everyone at least one handmade thing at christmas time, and for things like my daughter's birthday or fathers day/mothers day, valentines day i try make things as it's more personal.
Although sometimes i make something just to see if i can do it!
With most of the little toys and things I make, I leave them lying in a cupboard, but once my friends see them they tend to claim them. Otherwise I'll occasionally give them away as gifts etc.
Most of my crafts ive made to amuse myself, so theyre laying around my room for me to stare at. lol Most my friends like coming to my room bc theres all this weird creepy stuff layin around to play with. ... i make my own clothes & accessories to use, bc im too broke to buy new things.
Most 'versions' of other peoples projects ive made, ive given away as gifts to family/friends.
I have tons of projects, but I just never sit down and post them....and in those projects, most are gifts!
I tend to make mine as presents but those that I don't want to give to anyone specific or want to keep I sell on www.workerz.co.uk nice way to make a little extra pocket money
Mine are mainly gifts as well but I tend to make a lot of jewelry and I hang them up on old picture frames as art in my room.
