Acrylic on a Bikini?

Can i use acrylic paint to paint a bikini top? I wanna add some bats, spirals or something, not the whole top. i know fabric paint won´t work because beachwear is normally made of synthetics (lycra, polyester etc.) so is my bikini. I painted polyester lining with acrylic paint before but it don´t have any contact with water and i don´t know what the acrylic will do if i go swimming (sea water).
help is really appreciated as i will go on vacation on wednesday morning Happy

What about using fabric paint medium that you add to acrylic paint? I don't see why it wouldn't work...you may want to test it out on a similar fabric though. Since you use an iron on low heat to bond the paint it seems like it should work.
If you had a sewing machine that does the quick embroidery you could do that instead.

thank you felecity, i never saw fabric medium anywhere here, i think it´s something that you can ony buy in the internet here... and unfortunately i don´t own a machine that embroiders... Happy i´ll have a go with acrylic paint and make a test on a similar poly jersey fabric.

and you new pic looks awesome!

i have never tried using acrylic on a stretchy material like bikinis are made out of, but i have used it on cotton and it seems to be fine in the wash. i don't know if the paint would crack on stretchy stuff.

maybe you could try cutting the bats and swirls or whatever other shapes you're using out of a different colored fabric and stitch them on?

Acrylic will crackle on stretchy fabric... Use fabric paint or hand stitch embellishments or appliques

I don't remember exactly what they are called, but they are like permanent markers that you can use on clothes that come in all different colours, they are waterproof too? You could try looking for these at fabric shops, craft shops, stationary shops, news agent, supermarket, etc.
