DIY The Room

Julie recreates the Edwardian rustic style kitchen from Downton Abbey.

In the Edwardian era, inspiration was borrowed from the Victorian era and what 'modern' should be. This recreated the early 20th century. Downton abbey is no different. The love of useful yet pretty objects is seen in its copper wares, decoration, and even the aprons. Canning jars, canisters of all sorts, porcelain, and wood tables and shelving make up this kitchen. I have compiled a list of tutorials that will help you get this look.

Ashly recreates the quirky New York basement apartment of Kimmy from The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

I am a big fan of Kimmy from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt series. She's vibrant, positive and her living space reflects this. While Kimmy's apartment style feels somewhat random, it is all tied together with aquas, pinks, golds and interesting textures. It just made sense to find projects that follow suite

TheSewingMaven recreates the bright & colorful style of the seventies.

This Seventies bedroom is so colorful and fun! Flower power and pops of color create an updated version of this vintage room.

Dimitra from Decor Asylum recreates the cheerful European style of a Stockholm Apartment.

I just love how bright colours against white backgrounds & furnishings give this European apartment an airy, cheerful and optimistic appeal!

Libby recreates the colourful New York apartment of Max from TV show, 2 Broke Girls.

I love Max from 2 broke girl's open-plan apartment, it's so full of colour and personality. It's such a treasure-trove of found and thrifted things; I wish I could go there and snoop around!

Ashley from Bigger Than The Three Of Us recreates the bohemian style of actress Blake Lively's Home.

Blake Lively is such an iconic fashionista. I love seeing her dressed up on the red carpet but I also love seeing snapshots of what she wears in her daily life. I feel like her daily style is bohemian eclectic. I came up with a tutorials for projects around the house, that I feel like reflect her style. Lots of wood mixed with plants and soft furnishings.

Lee Rose recreates the glamorous style of a Hollywood dressing room for DIY The Room.

The Hollywood dressing room is all about knowing when to glitz. Clean lines and blank white dominate functional pieces, and all the extra pieces have an an aura of luxury with rhinestones, feathers and pin-ups. Even the hangers are gilded, and hang from the folding screen as you put on your evening gown. And of course you need lots of light, mirrors, and a lovely seat to put on makeup for your opening night. Your public awaits darling!

Kristen from Suburban Renovation recreates the elegant and funky home of Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift is known for her talent, her carefree attitude and her amazing style. It should be no surprise that her home decor would reflect her personality. Taylor Swift's home would be an eclectic mix of funky decor with an elegant twist. Taylor is not afraid to be herself and march to the beat of her own drum. We have watched her go from a teenager singing about heartbreak to a sophisticated and confident woman and her style totally reflects that. Taylor's home is her oasis; a place where she is inspired to write her music and also hang out with her friends and family. This home definitely reflects her style!

Lee Rose recreates the cosy and artistic style of a Gypsy Vardo for this week's DIY The Room.

When I think of the Gypsy Vardo I think mostly of texture and space. With less space comes more need for storage like the suitcase table or the thrift store baskets. Tiny accents like sugar skulls and lavender stars add to the fortune teller aire without taking up much space, and lots of bowls act as open storage as well as decor. The hanging chair leaves valuable floor space open and holds comfy patchwork pillows. The rug, curtains, and lampshade finish off the textural circus, and keep the gypsy wagon feeling like a portable home.

Cat recreates the style of celebrity chef, Nigella Lawson's kitchen.

I've always loved Nigella's kitchen from the glimpses you get during her cooking shows. The fairy lights and cluttered ornaments give it a really cosy but modern feel.
