Where was the workshop held and what was the venue like?
We all bundle in to the Sheep Shop itself, there's a big table and plenty of seats. So we are surrounded by shelves of colourful yarn and finished projects on display.
For a the cost of £1 there's tea and coffee when we arrive; and a plate of tasty treats for us. Absolute bargain!
Who’s in your group?
I'd say we average out at about 10 people in the shop on a Friday, but it's not all the same faces every week. I'm not sure how big the group actually is, I've been going for 6 months and I'm still meeting new people there.
There's quite a big age range. I'm one of the youngest at 26, and we span all the way through to retirees. I never feel out of place though, everyone is so friendly!
What are the main crafts your group do?
Knit and Crochet! There's a range of abilities and if you get stuck, or confused about a pattern, someone is always willing to help out.
Can anyone join and how should we sign up?
Everyone is welcome! You don't need to sign up, just turn up armed with your project.
If we get very busy people using yarns from the shop have priority. But with so many lovely yarns to choose from it's not difficult to find one in the shop to use for a project.
What’s projects is everyone working on at the moment?
Gosh, all sorts of things. Scarves, shawls, cardigans, hats, jumpers, blankets and socks are almost always one someones needles (or hook).
There was a very intriguing watch strap being made once - they had punched holes into a strip of leather and were crocheting around the edge.
I quite often have half finished plushies in my bag, as well as whatever 'not work' project I am working on. The first bobble sheep was designed and (half) made at the group one week!
Where else should we check out when we’re in town?
There is so much in Cambridge, it's a very small but dense place. The main market is a great place to grab something to eat. If you have kids (or are one at heart) the science museum is loads of fun.
I love just wandering the streets in the centre of town, there are so many truly stunning buildings.
Where are the best places to buy craft supplies to bring to your group?
You can buy them in The Sheep Shop! It has all the tools, loads of yarn, and oodles of patterns available to buy.
Is there anything else we should know?
If you come along on a Friday bring your bobble sheep! I love seeing other peoples makes from my designs; it is the most exciting thing!
Are you part of an awesome craft club and want to be interviewed? Send us a message!
