What are your hobbies?
I have a wonderful husband and two little boys. Most of my time and energy goes to them, although, as the boys get older, I have found that I am able to carve out more time to work on my own projects. I love cooking, gardening, and working on our house. I enjoy almost anything crafty or creative. Recently, I have been trying to improve my skill as a photographer, learning more about web design, and trying to teach myself to play the banjo...
What are your favorite crafts and what's your craft space like?
I really love making flower crowns, which is why I started my Etsy shop - www.etsy.com/shop/sweetlittlesparrow. I also like sewing, especially decorative sewing like embroidery, jewelry making, and creating pretty things for my home. My studio consists of a big work table that runs the length of one wall, and a multitude of shelves for storing tools & supplies.
What do you craft along to?
Honestly, I relish the silence of my workspace. I have always enjoyed some good peace & quiet, but I get precious little of it these days. My studio has become my refuge, a respite from the chaos of my busy life.
What was the first project you ever made?
The first thing I can remember making was one of those little woven potholders made from stretchy loops of fabric. I couldn't have been more than 4. As a kid I was always working on something crafty, but my interests changed over time - weaving, crochet, sewing, and calligraphy are a few that stand out in my mind.
What are your favorite items to make?
Lately I have been making my own silk flowers. I start with pieces of plain white silk, then dye it, cut it, and shape it using vintage style millinery irons to form the petals. It's a time consuming process, and has taken me quite a while to become good at, but I like a good challenge, and I really do enjoy it!
