When did you first start knitting / crocheting and where did you learn?
I first learned to crochet when my younger daughter was born, 16 years ago. My friend taught me by showing me how to make a basic double crochet stitch. From there, I taught myself how to do the other stitches, read a pattern, and the rest of the basics, mostly by reading how to books. Once I had learned enough to make different projects, I found that I couldn't always find patterns that matched what I was looking for, and that brought me to designing my own.
Shortly after that, I taught myself to knit--again with the use of how to books.
Can you remember the first thing you made?
A crochet afghan with a pineapple stitch pattern (not the best first project, but it was fun!).
Who are your favourite pattern designers and celebrity knitters & crocheters?
I really love the simplicity and elegance of many of the designers that are featured by Rowan Yarns. Their styles are very classic. I also admire, very much, Debbie Bliss' designs and style.
What are your favourite things to stitch and do you have a favorite item you've made?
I truly enjoy making hats, scarves, and accessories. They're great because smaller projects are easier to handle and work with, easier to take places, and they can be finished quickly.
Besides those, I also enjoy making a cute sweater or blanket, and anything for a baby.
One of my favorite things that I've made is my crochet Giraffe Hat.
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I really enjoy working on a project while watching movies with my family. It's a combination of two of my favorite things to do.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I do enjoy other crafts, like spinning yarn on a drop spindle, quilting, and cross stitching.
My other hobbies include reading, and bike riding during the warmer months.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I almost always have a ball of yarn and crochet hook, or knitting needles, in my handbag.
