When did you first get in to cooking and do you remember the first recipe you tried?

As the youngest of 6, I used to watch my sisters help my mother in the kitchen, particularly during the Eid season. Guess that sparked off my interest in fiddling around the kitchen! The first recipe I had ever tried (and loved) was a classic Victoria sandwich cake for my Home Ec final year examination. I was absolutely nervous, and I remember wondering why I didn't take the easier route and just make something simple like french toast. But everything worked like a charm, and I aced it!

What's your kitchen like and how do you keep organized when cooking?

Messy! I currently share the kitchen with my mom, so most of my pantry things are hidden in a little shelf. I usually pick out all the jars and bottles of ingredients and put them on the island before I begin cooking. Saves the frantic search or run around the kitchen!

What tips would you give to someone wanting to become a better cook?

Give yourself some credit, and don't be too hard on yourself. I've always thought of myself more of a baker than a cook, but once I allowed myself to make some mistakes and experimentations, I realise I'm not too bad after all. And just like my mom used to tell me, if you put in love and thought into your cooking, God willing, it will turn out splendid.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party and what would you cook for them?

Nigella, just because I love watching her eat. The whole party would be themed decadence. For starters, we'll have mini sliders of stuffed portobello with chicken and cheese; for mains probably a nondescript roast of sorts, and the star of the event would be the dessert, a platter of an array of chocolate desserts, like chocolate hazelnut tartlets, red velvet mini cupcakes oozing Nutella, and chocolate ice cream profiteroles. Have you seen how she pushes the envelope on decadence? Ah, absolute love!

Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?

I doodle now and then, and currently am making flashcards and alphabet prints for my lil one. I love photography, and collect film cameras, particularly lomography.
