When did you first start getting crafty and creative with fashion?
I have always been a crafty person. I used to make huge collages as a kid. I studied interior design at FIDM and have always been surrounded by the arts. I love creating themed parties. My schooling and overall creativity has transitioned into my fashion as I've gotten older. I really started expressing myself through make-up, fashion and accessories about 3 years ago when I started my blog.
Who are your favorite fashionistas and designers?
I love fashionistas that push the boundaries and wear unique, creative designs. Like Solange Knowles, how she wears unexpected shapes and colors. I am not into fashion for shock value, rather for art's sake. When an ensemble is creative and interesting and not what everyone else is wearing, it has my attention. Iris Apfel is my fashion queen for sure! I love designers that are inspired by global elements and have cultural elements, like Mara Hoffman, Etro, Duro Olowu and lots of independent African inspired designers.
What are your ultimate style tips?
I have come to a place with fashion where I push myself to get a little uncomfortable, mixing prints, layering jewelry and wearing stand out pieces that I might have some doubt about. If I feel a little uncertain or that it's too much, that's the moment when I know an outfit is perfect. You should experiment and get creative. Wear what makes you feel good or makes you smile and forget what everyone else thinks. Confidence is built by wearing something and owning it 100%.
If you could borrow one thing from a celebrities wardrobe, what & who would you choose?
I would love to borrow any jewelry from Iris Apfel. She has this amazing multi-strand necklace with a huge warrior face in the center. It's practically half her size. I would be honored to wear it, even for a few moments!
Which fashion blogs do you love to read?
I love AmarachiUkachu.com because she designs her amazing African print clothes and shoots them in one of my favorite cities, New Orleans.
I also love Bruised Passports.com, which is a travel and fashion blog. Savi and Vid share their "wheres and wears" from around the globe.
MissCharmsie.com always has amazing outfits, she is a print mixing master and loves vintage.
My all time favorite is BazaarBohemian.com. While her blog is not focused on fashion, her fashion blows my mind. I find her inspirational on so many levels.
Check out all these amazing ladies for global, eclectic inspiration.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I love reading, dancing and cooking. I love the holidays and am always crafting a meal, décor or decorations of some kind. You can't turn off the creativity!
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
When it comes to make-up, to fashion, to your hair, your clothes, your accessories, bottom line, have fun! Life is too short to worry about what others think of you! As they say, "people are going to stare, might as well give them something to look at!"
